Note: Select your next position based on the cover and concealment of the next position and<br />

the route(s) to it.<br />

e. Determine the movement technique(s) you will use to your next<br />

position.<br />

Note: Select the based movement technique. Considerations include—<br />

- Selecting the high crawl when the route provides cover and concealment, poor<br />

visibility reduces enemy observation, and speed is required but the terrain and vegetation<br />

are suitable only <strong>for</strong> the low crawl.<br />

- Selecting the low crawl when the route provides cover and concealment less than<br />

1 foot high, visibility provides the enemy with good observation, and speed is not required.<br />

- Selecting the rush when you must cross an open area and time is critical.<br />

2. Communicate your movement intent to your buddy and team leader, as<br />

appropriate, using hand and arm signals.<br />

Note: When part of a fire team your movement route and general firing positions may be<br />

determined by your team leader. When moving as part of a fire team you must be prepared<br />

to follow your team leader's example.<br />

3. Move using the high crawl movement technique (figure 071-326-0502-2).<br />

a. Keep your body off of the ground.<br />

b. Rest your weight on your <strong>for</strong>earms and lower legs.<br />

c. Cradle your weapon in your arms.<br />

d. Keep the muzzle of the weapon off the ground.<br />

e. Keep your knees well behind your buttocks so it stays low.<br />

f. Move <strong>for</strong>ward by alternating your right elbow and left knee, and left<br />

elbow and right knee.<br />

4. Move using the low crawl technique (figure 071-326-0502-3).<br />
