7.1.19 Sirohi<br />
Sirohi is bounded by Pali district in the North-East, by Udaipur district in the East, by Gujarat State <strong>and</strong> Jalore<br />
in the West. It is the third smallest district <strong>of</strong> Rajasthan. The geographic extension <strong>of</strong> the district lies in<br />
between 24 0 20 ’ to 25 0 17’ North latitude <strong>and</strong> 72 0 16’ to 73 0 10’ East longitude <strong>and</strong> occupies an area <strong>of</strong> 5136<br />
sq. Km. The annual rainfall is 665 mm. The maximum temperature touches 47 0 whereas the minimum<br />
temperature 0 0 C.<br />
In all 1041 wetl<strong>and</strong>s are mapped including 715 small wetl<strong>and</strong>s (< 2.25 ha) with 19259 ha area. The<br />
River/Stream with 10887 ha. contributed 56.53% to the total wetl<strong>and</strong> area. The Reservoirs/Barrages with<br />
4565 ha (23.70% area) is the second major wetl<strong>and</strong> category, followed by Tanks/Ponds with 2960 ha area i.e.<br />
15.37%. Thus, the district is dominated by man-made wetl<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
Open water spread <strong>of</strong> the wetl<strong>and</strong>s is significantly higher in post monsoon (6147 ha) than during pre<br />
monsoon (739 ha), indicating the rainfall dependence <strong>of</strong> the wetl<strong>and</strong>s in the state. Aquatic Vegetation in pre<br />
monsoon is 348 ha. The qualitative turbidity <strong>of</strong> water is low in post <strong>and</strong> moderate in pre monsoon season.<br />
