Atelier - Hotel Pro Forma

Under the artistic direction of Kirsten Dehlholm, Hotel Pro Forma has developed a worldwide
reputation as being one of the most provocative, inspiring and innovative production companies
in the experimental performing arts.
Atelier Hotel Pro Forma is a new umbrella organisation that is designed to inspire, develop
and grow the artistic organisation that Hotel Pro Forma is today. This ambition is further described
in our manifest for the Atelier and it is supported by the programmes that the Atelier will offer.
Manifesto
Atelier Hotel Pro Forma creates artwork of undeniable beauty and quality which provokes
and inspires new realisations and ideas in our audiences and the involved artists, people and
organisations.
The artworks are always interdisciplinary and investigative and are created through collaboration
with a global outlook. The artists, people and organisations involved rethink and create exceptional
works.
Artist-in-Residence
Through our international artist-in-residence programme, Hotel Pro Forma wishes to rethink
and recreate its own forms of working, the processes involved, and the artists with whom we
collaborate. The ambition is to create new innovative forms of artwork that both our audiences
and we find to be exceptional.
Artists-in-residence are given a unique opportunity to develop and collaborate with Hotel Pro
Forma on the creation of their own interdisciplinary work that can either be produced as their own
project or may be produced internationally as a Hotel Pro Forma production.
There are at least two Artists-in-Residence per annum at Hotel Pro Forma. Aspiring artistsin-residence
are required to send a project description to Hotel Pro Forma. Projects are then
assessed for their ability to meet certain criteria such as artistic quality and their ability to create
new forms of collaboration across existing art forms. Artists-in-residence candidates are then
chosen by artistic director Kirsten Dehlholm and manager Bradley Allen.
Associated artists
Through our associated artists programme, Hotel Pro Forma wishes to promote and develop
exceptional artists and their interdisciplinary work so that it can be presented on the international
stage in order to further inspire our audience.
Artists are chosen by Hotel Pro Forma’s manager Bradley Allen based on their ability to meet
criteria of quality, interdisciplinary, innovative artistic expression and wide audience appeal. Hotel
Pro Forma’s role in this new area is promotion of work to interested venues in Denmark and
around the globe, depending on the agreement with the individual artist.

Atelier

Internship programme
Through our international internship programme, Hotel Pro Forma wishes to share and develop
our knowledge together with students who can be inspired by our working methods, and who
are interested in collaborating on the creation of Hotel Pro Forma’s new artworks on a conceptual
and organisational level.
The programme consists of 10 placements with a combination of individual and group work, where
students work cross-disciplinarily with each other across such areas as architecture, literature,
visual arts, sound, light and performing arts marketing. The internship programme takes place
every fall and spring and is open to students from around the world.
New Collaboration
Hotel Pro Forma is constantly looking for new ways to collaborate, create new areas of artistic
knowledge and improving on existing production methods and the use of technology in not only
the performing arts but in the art world in general.
Currently Hotel Pro Forma is working on the creation of a ph.d. programme with Aalborg University
which will investigate Hotel Pro Forma’s use of sound on a performative level, both in the past
and the future. The ambition is to collaborate with interests from the academic, private, public and
artistic communities to develop processes and possibly also technologies that have applications
that go beyond the art community.
Hotel Pro Forma is deeply involved in the creation of several networks, the most prevalent being
Chapter 15, a network for Danish producers who work internationally. Other networks under
formation are an international network of successful music theatre companies and a European
network of exceptional production companies. Common to these networks is the ambition to
share knowledge and develop and exchange competencies on an international level.
Hotel Pro Forma also offers a wide range of services and areas of collaboration available to other
organisations including teaching, production management, international marketing and audience
development. We even rent out our fantastic space that is located just outside the city centre of
Copenhagen.
