9Q THE COUNTRY SPECIAL ONE-DAY (COMPETITION FIRST GRADE FIRST GRADE FIRST GRADE FIRST GRADE FIRST GRADE FIRS ROUND 1 V QUEANBEYAN won This very entertaining match was the first of the season's limited pyjama games. The start of the match was marred by some hoodlum (Wombat, no doubt) driving all over the wicket on Friday night. We were''strengthened"by the loss of GX and JA on rep. duties. Bruce Tapp won his first toss for three years and sent Queanbeyan into bat. A goos bowling and fielding effort (Who is that growing a shark's fin?) kept Queanbeyan 's score to 9 for 130. Ken Bone again bowled very well supported by Peter Day who picked up 3 wickets and one soccer style run-out of Bob Farquarson. Todd Ritchie and Roger Lonie opened in excellent style scoring 46. Todd looked particularly impressive. Chris Burgess 38, Roger 18 Peter 11 and Tappy 18 with runner, batted sensibly, not losing their cod against a tight Queanbeyan attack, allowing us to win. The most exciting patrt of the day occured in the final 3 overs. The scores tied at 130. A maiden is played out. Two overs left. Tappy goes for a big hit. Caught. 4 for 130. Cheeky single.- Burgess run out. 5 for 130... Two balls left... Debutant Clive Jones spoons catch to bowler. Dropped. Melee.. Wait, No.. Yes Run ... Yeesss. .Victory 1! A well fought and deserved victory to the Creek. ROUND 2 v ANU Washed out ROUND 3 v Woden Victory New Captain John Abrahams Esq. won the toss and sent Woden to the crease. Wickets fell regularly, runs were scarce - Woden made 88 from 48 overs. Four run-outs were executed in an excellent fielding effort. Todd Ritchie singlehandedly thrashed the bowlers to all parts of the boundary scoring 54* out of the 78 runs required (rainaffected) for victory. An excellent display from the whole team. Chris Burgess SECOND GRADE SECOND GRADE SECOND GRADE SECOND GRADE SECOND GRADE SE ROUND 1 V QUEANBEYAN (Interstate) Put into bat on a pitch that had n't felt a roller for a week and for a while it seemed if it wasn't going to see a batsman. The sight of 4/14 seemed to upset Drew and Harris who took the initative right away from Queanbeyan with a great stand of 80 and with a bit of help from the tail end reached a total of 151. Queanbeyan after starting badly on a pitch now playing like a first class pitch namely the MCG of recent years, never threatened and were gone for 88. Champagne in the shed afterwards to celebrate Dick Cottorfe 100th wicket for the club and Harris's 2000th run. ROUND 2 v ANU Washed out Rob chapman FOURTH GRADE FOURTH GRADE FOURTH GRADE FOURTH GRADE FOURTH GRADE F ROUND 1 v QUEANBEYAN We lost the toss (again) and were sent in on an easy paced wicket only to find Smith out off the first ball of the innings. (YeSja square cut) Fortunately, we recovered quickly and scored 7 for 196 off 49 overs thanks mainly to a magnificent 8C* by Jonathan Abrahams. Other scores- Darren Morris 38, Steve McGonald 20, and Andrew Burgess 22. Queanbeyan found our bowling and fielding too tight and could manage only 94 off 47 overs before they were all out. Best bowling, Andrew Burgess 3 for 10 off 10 overs. Ron
