environmental problems, we
have been forced to consider
the idea of living in an
ecofriendly house. Nowadays, a
lot of people is living in
different kinds of Eco houses
with a lot of technological
innovations techniques.
From wind turbines, to solar
panels, to high efficiency
lighting, ultra efficient
insulation, glazing, water
conservation, plumbing, recycli
ng and much more.

GREEN BUILDING MATERIALS
Recycled lumber can be used for
studs. Insulation made of recycled
jean material may be used for
walls. Many of the plastic wood
products are made from recycled
material. Materials that last a
lifetime reduce the amount of
waste that goes into landfills -- and
save resources that would
otherwise be used to replace them.
These products include cement
board siding, stone and brick, and
stand and seam metal roofing. It is
also important to use materials
that don't release toxins (labeled
LOW-VOC for paints and
formaldehyde-free
for
particleboard).
ENERGY-EFFICIENT DESIGN
One of the most important
features of eco-friendly houses is
that they are designed for energy
efficiency. Of course, it is essential
to use high-efficiency appliances,
heating and cooling equipment and
water heaters. But green design
can also include windows placed to
allow ventilation throughout the
house, south-facing windows that
take advantage of the sun's
warmth, and shade trees and
awnings for summer (see
References 1 and 2). Skylights in
interior rooms reduce electricity
use during the day.

Alternative Energy
Alternative energy sources are
becoming more common in private
homes. Some systems generate
electricity directly, like
photovoltaic (PV or solar electric)
and wind power systems. Other
systems, such as geothermal and
solar hot water, use the sun to heat
or pre-heat water for domestic use
or for space heating and cooling.
Usually, the PV and solar hot water
systems can be mounted on a roof,
while wind systems have land
requirements.
Water Management
Managing water is an often
overlooked component in an ecofriendly
house project. It is
important to reduce rainwater
runoff, which can carry too many
nutrients to nearby watersheds.
Minimize impervious surfaces and
use rain barrels to catch water
running off the roof. Water can
then be directed to gardens and
lawns. Gray-water systems recycle
water from sinks and showers for
use in gardens. Installing low-flow
toilets conserves water and
reduces waste, while composting
toilets go a step further by not
using water at all.

Old shipping containers lend
themselves to being recycled and
incorporated into new houses -
they are numerous, relatively
cheap and very durable.
The house pictured above right is
the worldFLEXhome, designed by
Danish architectural firm Arcgency,
and constructed to Active House
standards, using old shipping
containers.
During the construction process,
prefabricated floor and ceiling
panels are shipped to the site
inside the containers while the
outside of the building is clad in a
framework to hold insulation.
The original concept includes:
•solar cells, 30m2 roof facing
south
•A green roof
•Rainwater is collected in
underground storage
•Skylights let in light to the
interior
•The walls are highly insulated
(350mm)
•An interchangable facade system
(bamboo facade pictured)
•The windows facilitate
differentiated light
•The containers are easily
transported as ISO containers
•Heat pump
•Water tank
•Possible to connect to ground
heating
•Energy management system,
tracking energy consumption and
production online.

mathematical puzzle. The
architecture features a rain water
collection system and solar
paneling.

The XERO Project is one of the
entries to the Vision Dallas
design competition which aims
to make Dallas a greener city. The
proposal brings local agriculture,
orchards, gardens and food stalls
into the city of Dallas, all under
one roof.

The solar fish house
The Fish House by Guz Architects
is an eco-friendly seafront house
embracing Singapore’s tropical
climate by creating an open
space, which allows the residents
to enjoy the spectacular ocean
views. Natural light, ocean
breezes and tropical flora, have
been integrated into the design,
so that inhabitants feel close to
nature inside this high-tech
waterfront home.
It is constructed of wood, steel
and glass, and features a
swimming pool that connects the
house with the landscape. The
basement level media room
comes with a u-shaped acrylic
window that brings in the natural
light. The curved rooms are
covered with photovoltaic panels
to meet the energy needs of the
house.
Eco-friendly prefabricated
house
This eco-friendly prefabricated
house, designed by architect
Jonathan Davis, with interiors by
sustainability expert Zem Joaquin
was featured at the The Dwell on
Design Expo in Los Angeles - a
showcase of many of the best
new sustainable ideas.
The prefab house, consisting of
520 square feet, was sold on
eBay with proceeds going to
Global Green USA.

order to fulfil the USA’s
promise of to do it.

Moon landing trickery
A brief analysis of the images
show some flaws that cast
doubt on this event.
Flaws like inconsistent
shadows, some geometries in
the skies surrounding the
astronauts on the moon and a
horizon line between set and
screen, maybe produced by
the front screen projection
that also produce a different
texture ok the ground between
the two planes. It is a great
reason to think that it was a
Hollywood trickery.

CHILDREN SHOULD
TRUST IN MASS MEDIA?
Nowdays, children has the
freedom to acced to all of the
mass media, so they think
everything that appears there
is true, but what they doesn´t
know is that most of this have
information that is changed or
it is not totally true.
Parents should be sure of
what their childs saw in tv,
internet, etc, because most of
the time they do everything
the saw, there are many
things on that media that are
not for everyone.

difficult to control kids when
they are using the computers
mostly because the media
have taken advantage of our
free society and legal system
to turn things around 180
degrees.

media, so people don´t worry
about what are doing their
children with the media and
