the purpose
The Presidential Scholarship Program at High Point
University was inaugurated in 1976 in order to recognize
and encourage entering freshmen who, during their
high school careers, demonstrated outstanding achievement, good
citizenship, strong leadership and exceptional scholarship.
Dear Friend,
We’re proud and honored that you’re considering High
Point University for your new home over the next four
years. A vigorous academic environment is founded on
principles of high achievement and active involvement,
and your qualifications embody the spirit of higher
education adding immensely to our thriving campus.
We’re growing by leaps and bounds in many areas,
most notably the changes on our campus map and
in our academic programs. We know you’ll love our
new wellness center, university park with waterfalls,
wireless campus, and numerous academic buildings
that will house our Schools of Education, Business,
Communication, and Commerce.
The energy on our campus is contagious, and these
new facilities will enhance each student’s academic and
social experience here at HPU. Our campus blends the
excellent facilities of a larger university with the social
camaraderie of a smaller institution. This winning
combination is one of the main reasons that students
from 44 states and 50 countries choose High Point
University.
We hope you too will become a part of our diverse
and well-rounded family, and make High Point
University the next step on your pathway to great
achievement in life.
Best wishes for continued success,
For 12 consecutive years, U.S. News & World Report has
ranked High Point University among the top tier of
the nation’s comprehensive colleges with regard to
academic quality. This recognition results, in part, from
High Point University’s major investment in the Presidential
Scholarship Program which has grown by 145% since 1990.
Moreover, because 23% of the currently enrolled
students are fellows or scholars, you will be on a campus
where it is easy to develop friendships with other students
who share your academic goals. It is easier to learn when
you are at a school where your peers give priority to learning.
• Each semi-finalist will be interviewed by two separate
committees, each of which will include both members of
the faculty and current University or Presidential Fellows;
