Full-Time: 10 or more credits per quarter.
Part-Time: 5-9 credits per quarter.
EFC – Expected Family Contribution:
The EFC is a number that the college uses
to determine your eligibility for financial aid
after you have completed your FAFSA.
FAFSA – Free Application for Federal
Student Aid: The FAFSA is a free
application to apply for federal student aid.
Visit www.fafsa.gov for more information.
TCC's school code is 003796.
is an award for educational expenses that
usually does not have to be paid back,
unless you do not complete the credits and
maintain a satisfactory GPA.
Financial Need: This is the cost of higher
education determined by the college,
minus the EFC and available resources
(scholarships, VA benefits, etc.) to be used
for educational expenses.
are usually awarded to help students with
emergency situations, child care or other
financial needs.
Scholarship: A scholarship is an award for
educational expenses that does not have
awarded to students with achievement in a
variety of areas—not just academics. Not all
scholarships are based on financial need.
STARS – Scholarship Tracking And
Review System: The online service TCC
students use to apply for Foundation
scholarships.
For Foundation scholarship requirements only.
Foundation need-based scholarships require this.
Financial Aid
To begin the TCC Foundation scholarship process, you must have completed a FAFSA (for needbased
scholarships) and TCC Data Sheet. These items are also required for the funds listed below
and are available beginning every January for the upcoming academic year. It’s important to apply
for financial aid as early as possible, as some funds are limited.
Complete application procedures are available at www.tacomacc.edu/applyforaid.
Once you have completed the process, and based on your eligibility, you will be considered
for the following:
••
Federal Pell Grant Program:
A need-based grant awarded to
undergraduate students who
demonstrate financial need. The amount
of the grant depends on the EFC and
the number of credits for which the
student enrolls.
••
Federal Stafford Loan Program:
A low-interest loan made to students
attending college at least part-time.
Need-based Stafford loans are made to
students who demonstrate a financial
need; interest does not accrue on these
loans while the student is enrolled.
The unsubsidized Stafford loan is
available to students who do not
demonstrate a financial need; interest
accrues on the loan from the date of
disbursement.
