GOVERNMENT COLLEGES IN
CHANDIGARH : AN INTRODUCTION
“What greater or better gift can we offer the republic
than to teach and instruct our youth?
~ Cicero
Chandigarh, the city beautiful, has been efficiently performing the task of teaching and instructing
young minds over the years. It has established itself as an educational hub in the region, a spring
that has nurtured many a brilliant mind to fruition. The Chandigarh Administration is
committed to providing top quality educational opportunities and facilities to the
community. Over the years, the administration has set up five government colleges:
nPost Graduate Govt. College, Sector 11 (PGGC-11, Co-educational)
nGovt. College for Girls, Sector 11(GCG-11)
nGovt. College for Girls, Sector42 (GCG-42)
nGovt. College, Sector 46 (GC-46, Co-educational)
nGovt. College of Commerce & Business Admn., Sector 42 (GCCBA, Co-educational)
The colleges are affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. All these colleges are under the
governing umbrella of the Chandigarh Administration, and are directly monitored by the Director,
Higher Education. These colleges cater to various professional skills, promote value based
education, develop and enhance the potential of the students and ingrain in them the ideals of social
equality and service, discipline and respect.
Heights by great men reached and kept
were not attained by sudden flight
but they, while their brethren slept,
were toiling upward in the night.
We aim to help develop the students as individuals who have the ability to differentiate
between right and wrong, good and evil. We consider it our responsibility to teach the
youth to make the right choices in life through education.
By education, I mean, that training in excellence from youth upwards,
which makes a man passionately desire to be a perfect citizen,
and teaches him to rule, and to obey, with justice.
This is the only education, which deserves the name.
That other sort of training that aims at acquiring wealth or bodily strength,
