The Department <strong>of</strong> Geological Sciences at<br />
Brigham Young University invites applications for a<br />
tenure track Pr<strong>of</strong>essorial Faculty position beginning<br />
as early as January <strong>of</strong> 2014 in the following areas:<br />
fine-grained clastic sedimentology, methanogenesis in<br />
unconventional reservoirs, and economic geology. An<br />
interest and ability to contribute to our summer field<br />
course is a plus. A Ph.D. at the time <strong>of</strong> appointment is<br />
required. Implementation <strong>of</strong> a vigorous, externally funded<br />
research program is required. The successful candidate<br />
will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their<br />
area <strong>of</strong> expertise as well as introductory geology courses<br />
as assigned.<br />
Excellent research infrastructure exists within the<br />
department, including laboratories and field equipment<br />
that support a wide-range <strong>of</strong> geophysical, geochemical,<br />
isotopic, petrologic and petrographic studies. Excellent<br />
computational facilities are also available within the<br />
Department and University.<br />
The Department consists <strong>of</strong> 12 pr<strong>of</strong>essorial faculty<br />
and 3 pr<strong>of</strong>essional faculty, and <strong>of</strong>fers B.S. and M.S.<br />
degrees. Research areas include petroleum geology,<br />
continental magmatism, geophysics (shallow and deep),<br />
structure and tectonics, stratigraphy, paleontology,<br />
planetary geology, mineral surface chemistry,<br />
hydrogeology, and climate studies.<br />
