partnership between
Steinway Hall and
Third Street Music
School Settlement
has resulted in a new Piano
Ensemble Program in which
children and adults will
experience the joys of group
music making. Held at
Steinway Hall, ensembles for
adults on Tuesdays and children
on Saturdays will provide
opportunities to play the piano in
every configuration imaginable:
four-hand one-piano, four-hand
two piano, eight-hand two-piano, etc.
Ensemble participants are
grouped by skill level and will
receive expert coaching from
experienced performers and
educators as they explore music
from the Baroque, Classical,
Romantic and Contemporary
eras as well as jazz and popular
music idioms.
Other components of the
Piano Ensemble Program
include Master Classes with
renowned guest artists and public
performances at Steinway Hall
at the end of each semester.
A distinguished group of artistic
advisors for the Ensemble Program
include Leon Fleisher and
Catherine Jacobson, Mischa
and Cipa Dichter, Melvin
Stecher and Norman Horowitz,
Ian Parker, Polly Van Der Linde
and Seymour Bernstein.

Third Street Music School Settlement
Founded in 1894, Third Street Music School Settlement is the
nation’s oldest community music school and has been changing
lives and its community by providing access to worldclass
music and arts instruction to students of all ages and
backgrounds, regardless of ability or economic circumstances.
In fulfillment of its mission, more than 75% of students receive
financial aid or subsidized instruction, yet the reputation the
School has earned for teaching excellence attracts students, not
just from its surrounding neighborhood, but from all over the
New York area.
Located on East 11th Street in the heart of the East Village,
Third Street offers early childhood and preschool programs,
after-school and Saturday programs for children and teens, as
well as daytime and evening programs for adults. It also provides
instruction through nearly 30 school & community partnerships
and a year-round schedule of free-to-the-public performances.

The Piano Ensemble Program is designed
to supplement a piano student’s ongoing
piano lessons.
For children, Piano Ensemble coachess will
provide each student’s piano teacher with regular
updates on his/her student’s repertoire and overall
progress in this program.
For adults, the Piano Ensemble Program also offers
individual lessons on Tuesdays for an additional fee.
