Voluntary <strong>Muscles</strong><br />

<strong>Muscles</strong> that we can control. These<br />

muscles are <strong>the</strong> skeletal muscles that are<br />

attached to our bones. Think <strong>of</strong> a few<br />

skeletal muscles in your body.


Involuntary <strong>Muscles</strong><br />

<strong>Muscles</strong> that we can not control, such<br />

as <strong>the</strong> heart and <strong>the</strong> digestive system.


Skeletal <strong>Muscles</strong><br />

• <strong>Muscles</strong> that are attached to <strong>the</strong> bone. These<br />

muscles have stripes, called striations.<br />

Are <strong>the</strong>se muscles voluntary or involuntary??


Smooth Muscle<br />

Involuntary muscles that we can not<br />

control. Think <strong>of</strong> some smooth muscle in<br />

our body??? These muscles lack<br />

striations.

<strong>Muscles</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> heart; <strong>the</strong>se muscles<br />

have striations.<br />

• Connective tissue that holds muscle to<br />

muscle and muscle to bone.

When a muscle rests it relaxes; <strong>the</strong><br />

Muscle Contraction<br />

When a muscle works it pulls and becomes<br />

short and bulged, this action is called a<br />

muscle contraction.


Fatigue<br />

The build-up <strong>of</strong> wastes in a muscle from<br />

over exercise/exhaustion. This leads to<br />

muscle cramps.
