and learning opportunities are provided to suit all
employees’ personal development plans.
Shell Open University Through a varied
portfolio of on‑line training and courses, technical and
business learning opportunities can be accessed both
inside and outside Shell.
Technical development Shell’s technical
training programmes enjoy an excellent international
reputation, and many of the internal courses offered
are officially recognised by professional bodies as a
component of continuous professional development.
Leadership development Leadership
development programmes are available for all levels
in the organisation.
Coaching and mentoring Coaching and

What can you expect?
Terms and benefits Shell offers competitive
employment terms and benefits in a challenging and fast
moving industry.
Salary Starting salary is set according to
qualifications, skills and experience. Salaries are
progressed annually, based on individual performance
relative to peers. On top of base pay, 13th and 14th
month salaries (holiday allowance) are paid.
Variable pay Annual performance bonuses are
paid depending on individual and business performance.
Exceptional achievements and commitment are rewarded
under a Special Recognition Award scheme.
Share plans Share plans offer employees the
opportunity to participate in the growth of the business.
Shell has two separate plans:
‑ Performance related shares: a long‑term programme
whereby Shell shares are granted annually in view of
performance;
‑ Share purchase plan: purchase of Shell shares with an
annual company premium.
Pension Shell has a pension scheme with the
following features:
‑ pension based on final pay (final salary scheme);
‑ official retirement age is 65;
‑ actual retirement age can be chosen between 55 and
65; remaining in employment longer attracts a higher
retirement pension;
‑ individual options including part‑time retirement;
‑ employee’s contribution is 2%; employer’s contribution is
5%
‑ partner’s pension and orphan’s pension in event of
employee’s death;
‑ disability pension;
‑ value of pension entitlements accrued elsewhere is
transferable.
Discounts Staff are granted a 20% discount on
automotive fuel and other Shell products (up to a certain
annual limit) , as well as preferential terms and discounts on :
‑ healthcare insurance (individual and family);
‑ other insurance policies (home and car, life, personal
accident, legal assistance, travel and cancellation);
‑ mortgages and personal loans;
‑ individual pension savings;
‑ holiday travel.
Reimbursements and
allowances Certain job‑related salary
supplements are paid, e.g. for offshore work,
shift work or stand‑by duty.
Shell contributes to the Life Cycle Savings
Scheme: a fixed monthly allowance
equivalent to 3% of salary is paid, regardless
of actual participation in this scheme.
A fixed monthly allowance towards
healthcare insurance is paid.
Shell also pays a monthly commuting
allowance, or a public transport season ticket
can be issued free of charge instead.
Working environment Shell aims to
support its employees in managing their work/life
balance in an international working environment,
where there’s respect for diversity.
Holidays: 26 to 29 leave days per year plus 11 “ADV”
days (excluding public holidays). Leave‑saving and
leave purchase options are also available.
There are a number of flexible working policies in
place, such as:
‑ maternity leave;
‑ parental leave;
‑ childcare assistance;
‑ home‑working policy;
‑ Life Cycle leave.
Health and well-being Health Services
are available at the various Shell sites, and company
social workers offer confidential employee counselling
on any personal or work‑related problems.
Fitness facilities are available to staff at some sites.
