CARING FOR THE STATE’S CHILDREN<br />

Child and Family Connections, Inc… is <strong>the</strong> <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Children</strong><br />

and Families’ contracted Lead <strong>Community</strong>-based Agency. It provides a<br />

full spectrum <strong>of</strong> child welfare services <strong>to</strong> children who enter <strong>the</strong> foster<br />

care system in Palm Beach County. With a budget <strong>of</strong> over $33 million<br />

FY08, it continues <strong>to</strong> serve as <strong>the</strong> overarching strategy <strong>to</strong> build<br />

partnerships in <strong>the</strong> community and improve <strong>the</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> outcomes for<br />

<strong>the</strong> most vulnerable children and families. The Lead Agency contract,<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> State system — is <strong>the</strong> <strong>Department</strong>’s largest contracted<br />

agency.<br />

The program was<br />

established in 1980 in<br />

Chicago, Illinois in response<br />

<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> critical need <strong>to</strong> recruit permanent homes for<br />

African American children who over represented<br />

and tend <strong>to</strong> take longer <strong>to</strong> adopt than any o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

race <strong>of</strong> children. Although <strong>the</strong> program's primary<br />

focus and efforts are on recruiting African American<br />

families, it has recruited and continue <strong>to</strong> recruit for<br />

aggressively advocates on behalf <strong>of</strong> children who<br />

are in <strong>the</strong> state's foster care system <strong>to</strong> have a<br />

loving and permanent home. These are <strong>the</strong> most<br />

vulnerable children for which One Church, One Child<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Florida</strong>, inc. encourages families <strong>to</strong> consider<br />

adopting because every child needs a family that<br />
