Rapid skirting duct system<br />

This product range spans screed-covered ducts to screedflush<br />
systems through to cavity and false-floor systems.<br />
Modul 45 range<br />
Extremely compact and quick to install: Modul 45 type installation<br />
devices. Switches and sockets are simply clipped into<br />
position, – and remain available at all times should the installation<br />
be modified at a later date. Can be used <strong>for</strong> device installation<br />
ducts, <strong>underfloor</strong> systems, media columns and<br />

The task of cable routing and unit installation occur in areas with high traffic loads,<br />
such as exhibition areas in museums and car showrooms, sales areas, concourses<br />
in airports and stations, workshops, etc.<br />
These areas are commonly referred to as heavy-duty areas, as here the live loads<br />
place additional requirements on the floors and the installation systems. Besides<br />
static <strong>for</strong>ces, dynamic <strong>for</strong>ces may also have an impact, which should be taken into<br />
account in individual cases.<br />
Installation systems and floor coverings – a need <strong>for</strong> harmony<br />
The floor structure, screed type, covering thickness and the floor covering type<br />
– these are all key factors in the selection of the installation systems. Stone or hard<br />
coverings are often used in heavy-duty areas, on account of the applications involved.<br />
These can be cleaned easily and are very resistant to the live loads.<br />
The type of the cleaning required <strong>for</strong> the floor covering has an impact on the selection<br />
of the installation systems. If wet cleaning <strong>for</strong> floors is required, then the covering<br />
must offer moisture protection <strong>for</strong> the cables and resources installed in the floor.<br />
With regard to the covering thickness, the type and thickness of the floor coverings<br />
are of major importance. The smallest of bends can cause thin, hard floor coverings<br />
to break. Thick floor coverings have a positive effect on the load capacity of<br />
systems, as the load is distributed over a wide area.<br />
Note<br />
As the thickness of the floor covering and the load capacity increase, the weight of<br />
the covers of the installation system also increases. As these may require “handling”<br />
in some cases, agreement is required from all involved parties at an early stage.<br />
In the case of smooth floor covering surfaces, suction units are a suitable aid <strong>for</strong><br />
opening covers/cassettes.<br />
If the coverings are uneven or porous, then additional opening aids, such as<br />
threaded sleeves in the cassettes <strong>for</strong> installation keys, can be used.<br />
Standardisation<br />
In the current standard, DIN VDE 0634, load requirements <strong>for</strong> electrical installation<br />
systems are specified only <strong>for</strong> office applications. Although these requirements are<br />
relatively stringent, no products can be tested <strong>for</strong> the so-called heavy-duty sector.<br />
Current applications thus require detailed requirements from consultantes and<br />
construction engineers, and appropriate product testing.<br />
Ackermann – systems <strong>for</strong> the heavy-duty sector<br />
In recent years, Ackermann has worked closely with consultantes and construction<br />
engineers to develop a wide range of individual solutions <strong>for</strong> sectors with increased<br />
load requirements.<br />
As far as possible, these solutions are based on standard products, and tailor<br />
-made solutions are only created <strong>for</strong> the points at which the heavy-dutys impact.<br />
Based on the experience gained, there are now system solutions available <strong>for</strong><br />
screed-flush and screed-covered installation. Flexibility and safety are at the heart of<br />
the development process.<br />
The moisture protection offered by the system corresponds to DIN VDE 0634.<br />
Screed-covered solution<br />
In the two system sizes, 250 and 350, the ducts S2 and S3 are used in the standard<br />
version, along with the UZD box. Additional supports in the box ensure the<br />
necessary stiffness and load capacity.<br />
To provide a cover above the device installation, square or round heavy-load cassettes<br />
are used along with the GRAF9 service unit together with the installation cover<br />
with heavy-load support.<br />
Load classes<br />
The system solution “heavy-duty, screed-covered” is available in two versions:<br />
- Load class 1 <strong>for</strong> static loads of up to 10 kN.<br />
- Load class 2 <strong>for</strong> static loads of up to 20 kN.<br />
- GRAF9 <strong>for</strong> loads of up to 7.5 kN.<br />

The screed-covered duct system - EÜK - is used to cover large floor areas in office and administrative buildings<br />
with electrical resources. In the screed, ducts and floor boxes <strong>for</strong>m a (dense) grid and make conductor routing and<br />
installation options available <strong>for</strong> electrical resources.<br />
The EÜK screed-covered duct system is layed, positioned and fastened on the bare concrete. The duct sections<br />

The flushfloor trunking system - OKA/T - is used <strong>for</strong> conductor routing and the installation of electrical resources in<br />
the <strong>underfloor</strong> area. The trunking system can be opened along its entire length and is thus particularly suitable <strong>for</strong><br />
regular changes to laid conductors in dry-cleaned floors.<br />
The primary advantages of the system include: no welds, snap-in partitions, no pre-fabricated junctions required,<br />
lid fixing at any point along the trunking route and floor service outlets at any point.<br />

The raised floor trunking system – RFT – provides a modular cable way <strong>for</strong> power, voice and data. Formed by<br />
header trunking and branch trunking, a network of cable paths is created beneath the raised floor tiles in the<br />
600 mm grid of the floor. “Crossovers” guarantee safe separation of the different current types at crossing points.<br />
The trunking system requires no additional cutting and is thus extremely installation-friendly, flexible and safe.<br />

Function and design<br />
- The impressive surface - concentric circles, additionally emphasised by contrast<br />
varnishing of the recesses - removes the necessity of working the floor covering<br />
into the cover, which benefits both weight and handling.<br />
– The surface structure reliably prevents damage and scratching of the varnish,<br />
meaning that use is still possible in areas with high traffic loads, such as museums<br />
or ticket and exhibition halls.<br />
– The circular shape of the Service unit is independent of the direction and there<strong>for</strong>e<br />
combinable with all plan shapes.<br />
– All the materials used are extremely friction-resistant and are resistant against normal<br />
cleaning agents.<br />

Laying the <strong>underfloor</strong> duct<br />
The <strong>underfloor</strong> ducts must be laid on the bare concrete of the building and then<br />
covered with the screed.<br />
Danger<br />
If there is insufficient screed covering of the ducts, then the screed may tear<br />
when there is a load. Comply with the minimum screed covering of the ducts<br />
(see VOB Part C/DIN 18353 and DIN 18560 “Floor screeds in<br />
building construction”).<br />
Use of <strong>underfloor</strong> boxes<br />
Two types of <strong>underfloor</strong> boxes are used: <strong>underfloor</strong> junction and branch box UZD<br />
and empty <strong>underfloor</strong> box UGD. Underfloor junction and branch boxes are placed<br />
in the duct section ...<br />
... to simplify conductor pulling (at a distance of approx. 8 m).<br />
... if there is a change in direction or junctions.<br />
Empty <strong>underfloor</strong> boxes are used to install flush-floor installation units, GRAF 9<br />
variable height service units or height adjustable cassettes.<br />
The decision whether an <strong>underfloor</strong> box is used as a junction or branch box or an<br />
empty <strong>underfloor</strong> box should be taken be<strong>for</strong>e applying the floor covering.<br />
We advise the general use of empty <strong>underfloor</strong> boxes, which can be equipped<br />
with service units GES or inserts ZES of the same size. Connection expansions by<br />
replacing service units GES are always possible with the appropriate box size.<br />
Connection system<br />
Electrical devices are installed in:<br />
- GES service units or RKS/RKRS/RKSN cassettes<br />
– Variable height GRAF9 or SH(F) service units or RKF/RKRF/RKFN cassettes<br />
– Telitank above-floor installation units.<br />
Expansion of the connection at a later date is possible by drilling the <strong>underfloor</strong><br />
ducts. Units are then installed under an SH(F) protective cover or in a Telitank.<br />

Small duct direction corrections (up to 7°) in the course of the cable duct can be<br />
compensated in the insertion openings of the <strong>underfloor</strong> sockets without adjustment<br />
cuts (see Fig. “A”).<br />
Sloping duct insertions<br />
Sloping duct insertions (> 7°) can be created using appropriate adjustment cuts<br />
(see Fig. “B“) depending on the box size and insertion opening<br />

1. Use the duct layout plan to select a fixed<br />

As the duct system or part of the duct system serves as a binding pull<br />
gauge <strong>for</strong> the screed, the levelling must be agreed with the construction<br />
company.<br />
When applying the screed, the person laying the screed must<br />
carefully prepare, seal and pull away the screed around the junction<br />
boxes.<br />
Divider strips must not be used as the junction boxes can only achieve the<br />
robustness specified if they are joined directly to the screed. Using divider<br />
strips can damage the flooring.<br />
Important:<br />
Screed can be damaged by cracks. Do not put strain on adjacent systems<br />
and system components that are joined to the screed be<strong>for</strong>e the screed has<br />
hardened.<br />
Care should be taken to ensure that the sealing process does not create<br />
hollow areas between the components and the screed. Possible openings<br />
can be found, <strong>for</strong> example, at joints between ducts and connection lugs and<br />
vertical bends or to UZD/UGD <strong>underfloor</strong> sockets. The top connections, like<br />
the assembly protection cover and the assembly or blanking covers should<br />
be sealed using appropriate means.<br />
Aggressive screed (e.g. magnesia screed)<br />
With this screed, all metallic components which come into contact with the<br />
screed should be protected with an accredited corrosion protection agent<br />
based on epoxy resin (two coats).<br />

Use in poured asphalt<br />
Essentially, there are no restrictions with respect to the use of the<br />
installation duct system in poured asphalt.<br />

Under some circumstances, chemical or thermal strain can occur which<br />
means taking special additional measures to protect the installed systems<br />
(see, <strong>for</strong> example, VOB Part C (ATV), DIN 18353, Paragraph 3.1.8).<br />
Use in poured screeds<br />
When using screed-covered duct system in poured screeds, all the<br />
openings in the duct system must be sealed using appropriate means (e.g.<br />
using adhesive tape).<br />
The following is deemed as the most practical approach to using the system<br />
in poured asphalt:<br />
a) Under no circumstances must the screed-covered ducts come into direct<br />
contact with the poured asphalt. The high installation temperature<br />
(approx. 250ºC) means that it is not impossible <strong>for</strong> metallic components to<br />
be de<strong>for</strong>med.<br />
b) The duct systems are laid on the bare concrete and fixed in accordance<br />
with the fitting instructions.<br />
c) The duct routes are protected against heat shock using an appropriate<br />
layer of insulation (e.g. Fasoperl sheets or bitumen-coated corrugated<br />
cardboard).<br />
d) The socket bodies do not require additional insulating strips.<br />
e) The poured asphalt is applied.<br />

For fixed height trunking system, a smooth and levelled<br />
surface must have been prepared, onto<br />
which trunking system shall be installed.<br />
Arrange to provide ”Ribbon/Packing” screed below<br />
trunking profiles without leaving any pockets<br />
belows and secure base of trunking to floor slab at<br />
least at 600 mm spacing at holes provided at the<br />
base.<br />
Seal all openings and gaps with polythene sheets<br />
and/or masking tapes and/or silicon putty (to be<br />
supplied by installer). Provide rust preventive coat<br />
with zinc rich paint on all cut edges of trunking and<br />

GES/GRAF9 Service units<br />
Requirements <strong>for</strong> use in wet-cleaned floors<br />
DIN VDE 0634 Part 1 defines moisture protection <strong>for</strong> flushfloor and variable<br />
height service units as follows:<br />
a) The service unit must be protected against water levels of 10 mm on the<br />
floor surface (resistant both in the operational and non-operational states).<br />
b) Unclosed openings, such as cable outlets must have a minimum distance of<br />
30 mm to the floor surface (splash protection).<br />
GES flushfloor service units and<br />
GRAF9 variable height service unit<br />
Flushfloor service units GES can, in line with the standard, only be used in dry<br />
rooms with dry-cleaned floors; by contrast GRAF9 variable - height service<br />
units can also be used in dry rooms with wet-cleaned floors. Both meet the<br />
relevant DIN VDE regulations and thus the level of safety required<br />
by the European Community. They are installed in the covers of <strong>underfloor</strong><br />
boxes and <strong>underfloor</strong> trunkings of the appropriate<br />
<strong>underfloor</strong> systems.<br />
Accessories <strong>for</strong> power, telecommunications and data systems are mounted in<br />
separate mounting boxes or parts of such boxes made of insulating material.<br />
The use of mounting boxes made of insulating material provides the greatest<br />
possible safety against the transfer of error voltages from the power connection<br />
area to the telecommunications components or neighbouring metallic parts of<br />
the <strong>underfloor</strong> box or the <strong>underfloor</strong> trunking. All the incoming and outgoing<br />
connection conductors must have strain relief. The mounting boxes can be<br />
lowered into the interior of the <strong>underfloor</strong> box the <strong>underfloor</strong> trunking. The plug<br />
height (measure without contact pins) of the connected consumers may there<strong>for</strong>e<br />
vary between 27 and 47 mm.<br />
With a plug height of 47 mm, the screed height must be at least 80 mm. The<br />
mounting boxes can be lowered using notched guides. Flush-floor service units<br />
GES can be equipped with several (differing) mounting boxes, depending on<br />
the design. Each mounting box can be inserted, lowered and removed separately.<br />
SH(F) variable height service units<br />
SH variable height service units can, in accordance with the standard, only be<br />
used in dry rooms with dry-cleaned floors; however SHF variable height<br />
service units can also be used in dry rooms with wet-cleaned floors. Both meet<br />
the relevant VDE standards and thus the level of safety required by<br />
the European Community.<br />
A single accessory can be installed inside; the device and the connecting plug<br />
are protected by a hinged cover. The hinged cover has a rotating bearing so<br />
that the cord outlet opening can always be turned to the best possible position<br />
towards the consumer.<br />
Mounting of flushfloor service units (GES)<br />
1. During installation, it is assumed that floor covering has already been applied<br />
to the mounting covers and that the installation openings have been cut open.<br />
The mounting procedure <strong>for</strong> installing the service units is more or less identical<br />
<strong>for</strong> all sizes. There<strong>for</strong>e, the following section will describe the mounting procedure<br />
<strong>for</strong> the GES4 service unit as a representative <strong>for</strong> all the service units.<br />
We will draw your attention to items which deviate from the mounting procedure<br />
<strong>for</strong> the GES4.<br />
2. To fix the GES4 service unit in mounting covers of empty <strong>underfloor</strong> boxes or<br />
trunkings, you must first remove the hinged cover (1). To do this, move it to the<br />
vertical position and pull the left-hand side of the cover out of its bearing.<br />
3. Then insert the carpet protection frame (6) of the service unit into the<br />
mounting opening (4) and fasten it using the corner screws, which affect the<br />
clamping angle. In doing so, ensure that the clamping brackets (2) are securely<br />
located under the mounting cover (3).<br />

6. Accessories of different voltages in one<br />
mounting box shall be segregated by a divider<br />
(12).<br />
7. Apply lid (1) to frame (6). Install lid according to<br />
following sequence:<br />
– Place nock at right side into corresponding hole in<br />
the frame<br />
– Push left side of lid until the left side nock reaches<br />
end position.<br />
8. The hinged cover (1) has a captive cord outlet (14).<br />
The hinged cover can be lifted up using the lowerable<br />
grip (13). Firstly, the cord outlet swivels up and<br />
engages. If the Service unit is not used, then fold<br />
the cord outlet back in when closing the cover<br />
(cover also engages).<br />

GESR 4<br />
9. Mounting of the “round” service units<br />
The mounting procedure corresponds to that of<br />
the GES 4 Service unit. However it has the following<br />
differences:<br />
a) Fastening of the GESR4 or<br />
GESR(A)7 Service unit:<br />
when the hinged cover is open, all the fastening<br />
screws are accessible.<br />
b) Fastening the GESR9 Service unit:<br />
of the six fastening screws, four can be reached<br />
immediately<br />
when the hinged cover is open,<br />
while the two in the hinge area become accessible<br />
when the hinged cover is pulled <strong>for</strong>wards towards<br />
the cord inlet.<br />
c) GESR4, GESR(A)7, GESR9:<br />
Removal of lid of circular outlets Open lid (1) and<br />
overstretch it by more than 90°. Hinge (15) will<br />
release automatically and lid can be layed down.<br />
For complete removal of lid, use a screwdriver to<br />
release the hinge from the frame. Closing the lid:<br />
Simply close the lid and press on top of it until reaching<br />
the end position (“click”).<br />

1. Screw the GRAF9 and the mounting box support<br />
together.<br />
2. Insert the service unit in the <strong>underfloor</strong> box.<br />
There are eight fixing brackets included with the<br />
service unit.<br />

3. Seal the service unit against any moisture from the<br />
floor covering. For this, use suitable materials (e.g.<br />
permanently elastic sealing compound).<br />
In the case of service units with a protective floor covering<br />
frame, ensure that the frame covers the whole of<br />
the appropriate area.<br />
3a. With flush-floor installation with a floor covering application<br />
frame, the opening in the floor covering has a<br />
diameter of 328 mm. This means that there will be a<br />
3 mm gap around the service unit <strong>for</strong> later sealing.<br />
The application frame must be flush with the top<br />
edge of the floor covering. Walk-over protection must<br />
be guaranteed, i.e. the service unit must not be pushed<br />
downwards by traffic loads.<br />
3b. When using the DR spacer rings, place two<br />
rings around each service unit so that the<br />
floor covering application frame is flat against<br />
it. Fill the space between the application<br />
frame and the opening in the floor covering<br />
(ø 328 mm) with suitable<br />
sealing material.<br />

4. Connecting the devices:<br />
open the rotary lock using a screwdriver or coin and<br />
the cover of the service unit will spring up.<br />
Open the service unit cover, push out the Tube from<br />
below and lock it into the operational position by turning<br />
it to the left.<br />
Open the hinged cover of the Tube, pass the conductors<br />
through and connect the plugs to the devices.<br />
Close the cover, ensuring that the approved plug<br />
heights are not exceeded and no conductors are<br />
crushed.<br />
The cover engages automatically when lightly pushed.<br />
Arrange the conductors and close the hinged cover of<br />
the Tube.<br />
5. Remove the terminal connection:<br />
open the rotary lock with a screwdriver or a coin and<br />
the cover of the service unit will spring up.<br />
Open the cover of the Service unit.<br />
Remove the conductors, close the hinged cover of<br />
the Tube.<br />
Unlock the Tube by turning it to the right.<br />
Close the service unit cover and push in the Tube by<br />
applying slight pressure with your foot.<br />
The cover and the Tube must be flush against the<br />
frame to ensure moisture protection.<br />
Protective measure<br />
The service unit must be included in one of the<br />
protective measures against indirect contact.<br />
According to DIN VDE 0100, the effectiveness<br />
of the protective measure must be tested and<br />
proved when an electrical system is installed.<br />
