Master International Health Master of International Health HEALTH SCIENCES AT CURTIN Course Code: 186804 Cricos Code: 020884D The Master of International Health is designed to meet the professional needs of candidates who have a special interest in health in the global context. Introduction It is designed to facilitate the development of knowledge in understanding significant global health problems and issues and to assist in the acquisition of skills to enhance the planning, management and delivery of appropriate health programs and services. The Master of International Health program provides candidates with practical and theoretical knowledge and skills in international health within a culturally appropriate frame of reference. The program is informed by policies and directions of important international organisations such as the World Health Organization and the World Bank, and non-government organisations involved in health and research. Course Learning Outcomes A graduate of this course will have developed knowledge, skills and competence including the ability to: • Critically appraise environmental, physical and psychosocial factors that affect the health of vulnerable individuals and families in developing countries and marginalised communities • Plan, manage and deliver appropriate health programs and services to improve the wellbeing of individuals and families in developing countries and marginalised communities • Conduct research or scholarly work to contribute to national and global community health issues • Use research findings to develop evidencebased creative strategies for improving health vulnerable and marginalised communities • Integrate principles of cultural security, advocacy and social justice into the care of all clients. © Pan American Health Organization Entry Requirements Applicants must have a bachelor degree or equivalent with a course-weighted average of 75% for entry into the program. Applicants will have had significant work experience at a senior level in a health science or other relevant professional discipline. Selection will be based on academic performance and evidence of work experience. The applicant will provide: • Completed Curtin ‘Application for Admission’ and ‘Enrolment’ forms • A curriculum vitae including relevant work experience and a passport-sized photograph (hard copy) that has been certified by a Justice of the Peace or similar • Certified copy of academic qualification(s) (including transcripts of results) • A brief statement of specific interests in international health (maximum 250 words) • Acceptable evidence of English proficiency (international applicants only). Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Recognition of prior learning may be awarded to suitably qualified applicants who have work experience in relevant areas or have successfully completed relevant postgraduate units. Duration and Availability The course is three semesters full-time or part-time equivalent. Australian resident students must study by distance education, full-time or part-time. International students may choose to study on campus (full-time only) or offshore by distance education, full-time or part-time.
