The insulating housing of the screw terminal blocks are made of high quality material ­

PA6.6. Polyamide 6.6 is certified for the inflammability class va in accordance with UL 94.

From the point of view of application, the most important group of terminal is that of rail

mounted modular terminal blocks. DECA terminal blocks guarantee safe connections in all low

voltage installations. the materials used and the technical; data achieved meet the highest

quality standard.

Din Rail Terminal Blocks

The advanced design of Din Rail terminal blocks are developed according to exact

connecting technique. In order to provide our customers with required products. the screw

clamp terminals can be used in all of the connecting systems to fulfill the connection between

field equipment and control systems. The special connecting principle could supply safe and

effective wire termination while ensuring the highest reliability.

Screw Connection Technology

Screw connection is the most popular of all known methods of connection.

Screw connection refers to any connection in which the conductor is

stripped of its insulation and clamped without any special preparation. DECA

screw clamp system is built in protection against loosening.

When the screw is tightened, the resultant pressure pulls apart both

halves of the clamping yoke. This generates a particularly high locking

action on the screw. These clamping systems provide excellent vibration

resistance.

To establish a high reliable connection between conductors, Deca's screw

clamp unit fulfills this function well mechanically and electrically. The

following advantages make the screw-clamping unit to preferedly be used by

our customers:

• High reliability and maintenance free.

• Very low contact resistance.

Spring Clamp Technology

The stainless steel spring presses the conductor directly against the

current bar. DECA's spring clamp terminal blocks emply top wire system,

the space-saving design is suitable for limited operation space. The

spring is operated by using a screw driver to provide an access to wire

end gets clamped on to the current bar on removal of screw driver. The

spring clamp system can guarantee excellent mechanical & electrical

functions by reliable wiring. The following advantages make the spring

clamp system to preferedly be used by our customers.

• Space-saving design of front connection .

• Vibration proof anti-loosening wire connection with

pre-stressed Spring Clamp.

• Easy to operate, fast wiring installation with top wire entry.

Technical Information

The Rated VoUage:

The rated voltage of a terminal block is a voltage value which is stated by the manufacturer

according to creepage and clearance distance defined in respective EN, VDE, UL and CSA

Standards.

Rated Current:

The rated current of a terminal block is a current value, which is indicated by the

manufacturer and covered the thermal, electrical and mechanical requirements on using the

rated cross-section.

Current Rating wi~h Two Wi!re/Conductors:

The total current of the two wires / conductors should not exceed the continuous current

rating of the terminal block. The continuous current rating is the maximum current the

terminal block can conduct without a temperature rise of 45K(as per EN standard) and 30 G C

(as per UL / CSA standard).

Rated Connecting Capacity:

The manufacturer must specify the rated connecting capacity too, such as the area of the

conductor that can be connected, the number of conductors can be connected

simultaneously and the necessary preparation of the conductor ends. The conductors can be

solid, stranded, and flexible with prepared conductor ends if required. According to standard

requirements, the rated connecting capacity of terminal blocks must be minimum two sizes

smaller than the rated cross section.

Rated Cross-section:

The rated current of a terminal block is the size-as specified by the manufacturer of the

conductor cross-section that can be connected to the terminal, on which certain thermal,

mechanical and electrical requirements are based and which is intrinsic to the marking on the

terminal.

Derating Curv·e

The rated current of the terminal bocks must be valid in given temperature values and

depend on the insulation material. The rated current value must be reduced when a terminal

block is installed in an environment which is having higher temperature than standard one,

To determine the derating curves for practice purposes, the current carrying capacity is

determined for the modular terminal blocks according to DIN [N 60 :'12-5-1.

Terminal Block Materials

All materials used for DECA products conform to industrial standards and are subject to

stringent quality control according to ISO 9001. Besides, environmental compatibility is also

taken into consideration of the selection of materials,

Metal Materials

The current-carrying materials copper, brass and bronze are characterized by

their high conductivity and good mechanical properties. Metal materials are

selected. processed and surface treated according to the latest state of

engineering. The brass parts are nickel-plated to have a diffusion barrier and this

nickel layer effectively prevents the discharge of zinc atoms from the brass.

InSUlating Materials

Engineering thermoplastic polyamide 6.6 has excellent electrical, mechanical

and chemical characteristics even at temperatures as high as 100°C and contain

no cadmium based color pigments. Polyamide (PA) is one of the most frequently

used technical plastics. Polyamide absorbs moisture from its surroundings, on

average 2.8%. This makes the plastic flexible and resistant to breakage, even at

temperature as low as - 40°C, Polyamide 6.6 is difficult to ignite, self­

extinguishing, burns only as long as there is a supporting flame and is rated V2

according to UL 94. Good ageing resistance and insensitivity to ultra violet light

makes it suitable for trophical and open air applications. Polyamide 6.6 has

excellent resistance to fuels, oils, fats and most common solvents like aliphatic

and aromatic carbohydrates, ketons and alcohols.

Polyamide 6.6 has long occupied a leading position and is authorized for use

by the relevant approval offices such as UL,VDE, SEV, CSA, NEMKO, etc.

Comparative Tracking Index of Insulation material

The insulation material is divided into four groups according to their CTI

(Comparative Tracking Index).

Insulation III a: 175 ~ CTI < 400

Insulation III b: 10:s CTI < 175

DECA terminal blocks are molded from UL94-VO material with excellent flame

and shock resistance and mount on a standard 35mm Din Rail. DECA terminals

are made of carefully selected standard materials and clamping metal is

subjected to strict quality control as required by international standards.

Polyamide 6.6 molded housing absorbs humidity from its surroundings. This

insulating material has high mechanical strength is unbreakable.

Housing

The plastic rousing is designed as the base

carrier, provides printed-circuit board pac aging

solution, that employs either to an IDC Connector

moduie. it is ejected to one meter iong in

maximum and is available to be cut into any

End Bracket

The end bracket appl ies as the closed

and to the base carrier. The standard

models come with the moun ing foot with

two options respectively in 15.5mm and

8.0mm.The feet on the end bracket can be

taken as the mounting fix ure available to

snap onto all standard mounting rails,

Test Requirement for Safety Approval

Verification of electrical characteristics according to IEC60947-7-1

The verification of eliectricall characteristics includes the following:

• verification of clearances and creepage distances

• dielectric test

• verification of the voltage drop

• temperature-rise test

• short-time withstand current test

• ageing test for screwless-type terminal blocks

8.4.3 Dielectric Test

Each test shall be carried out on five adjacent terminal blocks and then between all

terminal blocks connected together and the support to which the terminal blocks are

attached.

The test voltage shall be applied first between the adjacent terminal blocks and then

between all terminal blocks connected together and the support to which the terminal

blocks are attached.

Verification of voltage drop

The voltage drop shall be verified

a) before and after the test of mechanical strength of clamping units

b) before and after the temperature~rise test

c) before and after the short-time withstand current test

d) before, during and after the aging test

The voltage drop is measured on each terminal block as indicated in figure2. The

measurement is made with a direct current of 0.1 times the value given table 4 or table 5.

Before the tests according to a), b), c) and d) above, the voltage drop shall not

exceed 3.2mV.

After the tests mentioned above, the voltage drop shall not exceed 150% of the values

measured before the tost.

Temperature-rise Test

The voltage drop is measured before the temperature-rise test on each terminal

block as indicated in figure 2. The measurement is made with a direct current of 0.1

times the value given table 4 or table 5. Five adjacent terminal blocks connected in

series by conductors of the rated cross-section, as shown in figure 2. The conductors

shall be tightened with a torque according to table 4 of IEC60947-1. A variation of

less than 1 K between any two out of three consecutive measurements made at an

interval of 5 min is considered as steady temperature and the temperature rise of

the terminal block shall not exceed 45k.

Before the temperature-rise test, the voltage drop shall not exceed 3.2mV and after the

test mentioned above, the voltage drop shall not exceed 150% of the values measured

before the test.

Short-time withstand current

The purpose of this test is to verify the ability to withstand a thermal shock.

A terminal block shall be capable of withstanding for 1 second the rated short-time

withstand current which corresponds to 120AI mm2 of its rated cross-section. The

voltage drop shall be verified after the short-time withstand current test.

Verification of rated cross-section(special test with gauges)

The test shall be carried out on each clamping unit of one terminal block.

Test for insertability of unprepared round copper conductors having max. cross-section

The test shall be carried out using the appropriate form A or form B in Table 7.

The measuring section of the gauge shall be able to penetrate freely into the terminal

aperture to the full depth of the terminal (see also note to Table 7).
