JOHN L. BROOKS III<br />

Mr. Brooks is President <strong>and</strong> Chief Executive Officer<br />

<strong>of</strong> Joslin Diabetes Center.<br />

A well-known life sciences executive, Mr. Brooks<br />

assumed <strong>the</strong> President <strong>and</strong> CEO responsibilities<br />

in March 2011, leaving <strong>the</strong> role <strong>of</strong> Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Joslin Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees that he had assumed <strong>the</strong><br />

previous year.<br />

Previously, Mr. Brooks co-founded three life<br />

sciences companies including Insulet, which <strong>of</strong>fers an<br />

insulin-pump system for people with type 1 <strong>diabetes</strong>.<br />

He was a principal <strong>of</strong> Healthcare Capital Consulting LLC,<br />

which advises early-stage life sciences companies, <strong>and</strong><br />

a founder <strong>of</strong> Prism VentureWorks, which raised more<br />

than $1.25 billion in capital. He also has been chief<br />

executive <strong>of</strong> Reflectance Medical, which <strong>of</strong>fers technology<br />

for non-invasive monitoring <strong>of</strong> critically ill patients.<br />

Earlier in his career, Mr. Brooks was General<br />

Manager at Pfizer/Valleylab, where he developed <strong>and</strong><br />

executed a minimally invasive surgery strategy. With<br />

Pfizer/Strato, he led <strong>the</strong> growth <strong>of</strong> a rapidly evolving<br />

vascular access medical device business.<br />

A native <strong>of</strong> Massachusetts, Mr. Brooks holds an<br />

M.S. in Business <strong>and</strong> a B.B.A. cum laude from <strong>the</strong><br />

University <strong>of</strong> Massachusetts at Amherst.
