YOUROPE – THE EUROPEAN FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION<br />
Founded in November 1998<br />
<strong>Yourope</strong> members are dedicated to improving the European festival scene in terms of:<br />
• working conditions<br />
• health and safety issues<br />
• environmental awareness<br />
• exchange of knowledge and information<br />
• promoting the cross-border exchange of live music talent<br />
The overall aim of the association is to collaborate, share experiences and to pinpoint areas that<br />
would benefit from a joint approach. Having gained respect within the industry and at government<br />
level, <strong>Yourope</strong> also has the power to lobby for all legal and industry issues relating to the<br />
European festival industry on behalf of its members and together with other associations in the<br />
live music business.<br />
<strong>Yourope</strong> also focuses on other key issues for festivals – such as exchange of information regarding<br />
marketing and sponsorship, contracts, production riders or radio/TV/internet rights and more.<br />
After several workshops in 2012/<strong>2013</strong> and under guidance from music lawyer Ben Challis, the<br />
<strong>Yourope</strong> standard terms for artist contracts and a standard agreement are finally available to use<br />
in the <strong>2013</strong> festival season.<br />

Pay within the first three months of joining and pay only € 1200 instead of € 1500 for a year’s<br />
membership. <strong>Yourope</strong> also operates an ‘Associated Members’ scheme for companies working<br />
within the European festival scene, enabling them to contribute to the industry and collaborate<br />
with festival promoters. The Associated Membership fee is the same price as the regular Festival<br />
Membership (but without a voting right).<br />
Companies who promote more than one festival during the year will get special membership<br />
rates if they join <strong>Yourope</strong> with their 2 nd or even more festivals.<br />
ETEP – EUROPEAN TALENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM<br />
<strong>Yourope</strong> is also a founding partner of the European Talent Exchange Program (ETEP) and has<br />
been active during Eurosonic Noorderslag for many years. ETEP stimulates the circulation of<br />
European artists within Europe by performing at selected festivals troughout Europe. The result is<br />
impressing: Every year more than 200 confirmed shows by over 70 unique European artists from<br />
at least 20 countries at the now 78 – and counting – ETEP festivals!<br />
Since the start of the ETEP program in 2003 a total of 1646 shows by 605 European artists were<br />
presented at the ETEP festivals (2003 – 2012).<br />

Due to financial support from the European Commission for the next years Eurosonic Noorderslag,<br />
<strong>Yourope</strong> and all other participating partners will be able to continue the already successful<br />
ETEP program and develop it. In the next years we will be able to add more festivals and<br />
create more results for the selected ETEP acts and festivals and work on better opportunities and<br />
border breaking carriers for European Artists in Europe.<br />
YES GROUP – YOUROPE EVENT SAFETY GROUP<br />
Since 2006, <strong>Yourope</strong> has organised over a dozen health & safety seminars for festival security<br />
staff from all over Europe. Headed by a steering committee of around Chris Kemp from Bucks<br />
New University and Henrik Bondo Nielsen from the Roskilde Festival, the seminars and workshops<br />
have had a big impact on <strong>Yourope</strong> in recent years. The YES group in cooperation with<br />
the Bucks New University are also pleased to announce the launch of the Professional<br />
Certificate in Event Safety and Security Management.<br />
The 16 th <strong>Yourope</strong> Safety Seminar (April 18 & 19 <strong>2013</strong>) will take place at Missenden Abbey in<br />
Great Missenden in the UK as part of the open series of seminars which run alternately with<br />
the closed seminars for <strong>Yourope</strong> members only.<br />

<strong>Yourope</strong> members don’t pay admissions or get special discounts!<br />
<strong>Yourope</strong> is a main contributor and driving force of the GO Group (Green Operations Europe). It<br />
is an independent, pan-European and cross-industry think-tank to inspire people in the music<br />
festival and event industry to run their operations greener and smarter. GO Group stimulates best<br />
practise exchange and active communication between events and suppliers. Several international<br />
workshops were organized in cooperation with hosting <strong>Yourope</strong> members (such as Amsterdam<br />
2011 with ID&T/Mysteryland, Budapest 2012 with Sziget). GO Group contributed to the GreenEvents<br />
Europe conferences and other well established industry gatherings (such as Eurosonic<br />
Noorderslag, Nuits Sonores and Medimex) and will do so and even more in the future.<br />
Go Group is also sponsoring the Green Operations Award in the European Festival Awards which<br />
highlights festivals that have made a significant contribution to or achievement towards developing<br />
more sustainable events. There is only one event awarded each year, so one could say that<br />
the Green Operation Award is the ‘Green Oscar’ for the European festival scene.<br />

FESTIVAL AWARDS EUROPE<br />
<strong>Yourope</strong> and Festival Awards Ltd. worked in co-operation with Eurosonic Noorderslag to launch<br />
the European Festival Awards in October 2009. The 4 th edition of the Festival Awards Europe (with<br />
13 categories) took place in January <strong>2013</strong> in the context of Eurosonic Noorderslag at Groningen<br />
(NL). Over one million votes were cast in the voting period at the end of 2012.<br />

GREE‘N‘CLEAN / GO GROUP (GREEN OPERATIONS EUROPE)<br />
Green issues mark one of the main topics for <strong>Yourope</strong>. Since 2006 the association offers its<br />
members a broad range of environmental guidelines for music festivals and an online tool to<br />
go along with them. Festival organisers are given customised advice and reiceve the prestigious<br />
„Green‘n‘Clean Award“ by fulfilling the <strong>Yourope</strong> standards. So far, almost 40 <strong>Yourope</strong> members<br />
from 14 countries have achieved the award.<br />
