Issue 1 - 2 Feb
D
uring this week every school, kindergarten
and child care centre has students who
are commencing a new journey in their
education. They come to us from varied
backgrounds. Many of them will have been
anxiously awaiting their first day wondering what their new school, kindy, child
care will be like; Who they will meet? What teachers they might have? We have
been given a wonderful opportunity to have a significant influence in shaping
their values and making a difference to their lives.
As we commence a new year (a new beginning) of service to the students,
families and colleagues of our respective communities, I commend each of us to
adopt a reflective approach to our interactions with all of those with whom we
interact. Why not adopt WWJD – What Would Jesus Do? as a mantra for 2012.
Love makes all the difference to acts of service: The following bible passage
from 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8(a) takes on an even more significant meaning if the
word love is replaced by Jesus.
4 Love (Jesus) is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude.
5
Love (Jesus) isn't selfish or quick tempered. Love (Jesus) doesn't keep a
record of wrongs that others do.
6 Love (Jesus) rejoices in the truth, but not in evil.
7 Love (Jesus) is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting.
8 Love (Jesus) never fails!
Carpe Diem – being subject to Christ as our fulfilment - that gives strength to
endure times of trial and challenge. Seize the opportunity to WWJD every day!
As this is the first edition of Update for 2012 and the first since I have
commenced in my new role as Executive Director I take this opportunity to affirm
all staff in our schools, kindergartens and child care centres and pray that the
year ahead will be full of many blessings as you serve in a very special ministry.
I, together with the LSA staff team, am committed to working in partnership in
serving and supporting principals and staff in every possible way.
John Proeve
The purpose of Update
The LSA team want to connect with all staff in schools, kindergartens and child
care centres and keep them informed of relevant matters. The fortnightly
newsletter ‗Update‘ is an important means to facilitate this communication.
All schools and centres are encouraged to send this as an electronic
publication to all their staff.

Installation of Executive Director, LSA SA / NT / WA
Our new Executive Director, John Proeve, has been 'on the job' now for
nearly four weeks, and from all reports has settled into his new role very
well.
On Monday 27 February at 11am we will be officially installing John
into this new role at a special service to mark the occasion. Our
Installation Service will be at St Paul Lutheran School, Blair Athol.
It is our plan to design a service that incorporates the involvement of
students from our schools and kindergartens. Invitations will be arriving
in schools soon and we are hoping that all schools can have some
representation at this special service.
With these plans in mind, we are encouraging schools to mark this date
and time in your diaries.
National Lutheran Schools Week (NLSW)
Date: 7-13 May 2012
Theme: First-last…upside-down…back-to-front…inside-out…
Humility is one of the ten core values for living in community that is
described in the values statement of A vision for learners and learning
in Lutheran schools. In humility, as Jesus‘ teachings show,
juxtapositions abound: true greatness/lowliness, first/last, exalted/selflessness, power /weakness, the greatest/
like a slave, leadership/service, up/ down, forward/reverse. Cultural mores and the way we want to act are
turned on their head.
Reversals of common human understandings take us out of glory land and into a ―last of all‖ mentality. We are
challenged to reverse long- standing ingrained human habits. An attitude of humility is inextricably linked to
and a prerequisite for love and service. In National Lutheran Schools Week the spotlight shines on humility:
what it looks like, what it sounds like, what it feels like, what it thinks like in the lived reality of both school and
personal contexts. [Mark 9:35 Philippians 2:1-13 Matthew 20:20-28]
Resources for NLSW 2012 are presently being developed. We expect they will be available for schools by end
of January 2012. Watch this space!
Positions Vacant
There are already some school communities seeking staff to fill leadership vacancies that have emerged for
various reasons. Positions to be advertised in the near future:
Deputy Principal at Faith Lutheran College, Tanunda.
