From Delamere station Delamere Forest Park The Mid Cheshire Line runs through the forest and the station is just a ten minute stroll from the visitor centre. Catch the train to Delamere station to enjoy miles of free walks through the forest and beyond, go orienteering or hire a bike and tackle the challenging bike trails. You can also get up high and appreciate the forest from the tree line by “Going Ape” goape.co.uk. There are refreshments at Linmere Visitor Centre or in the Delamere station café on the platform. At Delamere Forest, there is a wide range of ranger-led interactive educational programmes and activities for schools and other groups including cubs, brownies and birthday parties. Visit the Neo-Classical Mansion, explore 50 acres of Gardens, Tudor Old Hall, the Tatton Park working Farm and 1000 acres of parkland. Group rates are available to pre- booked groups of 12 people or more and represent a 20% saving off the normal admission rates. Group visits can be made available during the day or evening and can include various activities including a talk about the Tapestry and guided tours around Knutsford. 01565 650 506 www.knutsfordheritage.co.uk From Altrincham station Ice Rink Silver Blades Altrincham caters for all disciplines; general skating for newcomers, figure skating, ice hockey, and speed skating for the experienced. From Hale station Dunham Massey Dunham Massey is set in a magnificent deer park and gardens. This Georgian house tells the story of the owners and the servants who lived here. In winter visit the beautiful Winter Garden especially planted to highlight the best of winter plants and shrubs. The property is approximately two and a half miles from either Hale or Altrincham stations and can be reached by interesting routes of varying lengths, for more information visit midcheshirerail.org.uk/station/hale/ Group visits - average length three hours, introductory talks, guided tours and out of hours tours (additional charge) can be arranged. Hat Works Hat Works is the UK’s only museum dedicated solely to the hatting industry, hats and headwear. The museum focuses on the development of the industry from its humble beginnings to the mass production of the early 19th century. There is a recreated factory floor with an extensive collection of working machinery and a reconstructed hatter’s cottage. There is also a café and gift shop. Groups are welcome (there is a small charge for each person) - tours are led by expert demonstrators who will share their knowledge and give an insight into the processes involved in producing a hat. Learn about the cottage industry and enjoy demonstrations with original working Victorian-style machinery. Tours can be customised. There is also a large hat gallery with a collection of over 400 hats from around the world, including celebrity hats and a top hat reputed to be the tallest in the world. 0161 355 7770 www.hatworks.org.uk Staircase House Staircase House shows life through the centuries from 1460 to WWII and is an opportunity to learn how people used to live and how society and attitudes have changed over time. There is also a gift shop and café. The house is set in the heart of Stockport’s historic market place and boasts an intriguing array of rooms linked by corridors and narrow passages. The bedroom boasts a seventeenth century four poster bed, there’s a two hundred year old table in the eighteenth century dining room, an authentic busy kitchen, and some historic lighting in the tallow room. Group visits are possible both inside and outside regular opening hours. There are audio tours or guided tours, with refreshments if required. Schools and educational groups are welcome. Children can experience the unique atmosphere of the historic house and engage with the past in the sessions available for various Key Stage subjects.
