HIDDEN MEMBERSHIP NUMBER

Would you like to enjoy a “FREE DINNER”

at the Club? Look through this month’s

Newsletter, find the hidden Membership

Number and if it belongs to you, call the office

by the 15th of the month to receive your free

dinner at the Club, value $30.

Recently, Bruce Shaffer took me on a tour of the men’s locker room and I was thoroughly

impressed with the renovation – it didn’t even look like the same place and believe me, that

is a good thing! The manner in which the contractor chose to lay the tile as far as design

turned out great and it really broke the room up because it is such a large space. Tim Mullins

had delivered about 90 of the new wooden lockers and even though he had not placed the

front on them yet, they looked exceptional! Not only will golf members enjoy the new locker

room, it should really benefit the Club when a potential member is touring our facility. I

congratulate all those people who had a hand in the renovation, great job!

In early winter last year, I had great expectations of what the coming year would bring as

far as Club growth. I also looked even farther into the future, including phase II improvements

to the golf course planned for fall of 2013 that was set into motion by last year’s finance

committee. However, as 2012 started to unfold, our total membership, and in particular golf

memberships, had fallen off slightly from prior years; yet as a result of our somewhat sluggish economy, this came as no

surprise to me. We are still faced with problems in regards to the condition of the clay tennis courts and the possibility

of replacing them with asphalt; however, the bid was $20,000 more than originally quoted so we are trying to procure

some additional bids.

Primarily based on what has transpired in our local economy, my overall objective became “membership retention”

as I reiterated to our Directors last month. The Membership Committee is doing an excellent job and has implemented

a new incentive plan to gain membership. We are picking up new members every week, and with any good fortune,

we should be back by mid-year to normal membership levels.

I had the opportunity to participate in the men’s kickoff scramble and there was an excellent turnout. Jeff and

Matt, as usual, did a great job of organizing it! Our team wasn’t in the money, but I had the opportunity to play with

three quality guys and that made it fun for me!

Bruce VanHorn, President

From the Manager’s Desk

BCC’s Starry Night Event at the Pool was a perfect evening…guests dined, danced and had

a great time under the stars! We sold a total of 113 tickets, down from 226 last year…we were

not only competing with Charlie Daniels’ performance at the Paramount Arts Center but also

with area school graduations. This year’s grand prize of $1,000 was awarded to our very own

Golf Pro, Jeff Bostic. Steve Towler won two prizes totaling $750 while Tom Leach brought

home $250! A great big thank you goes out to all the Members who sold/bought tickets to

support the event. Proceeds from ticket sales less prizes awarded leaves approximately $6,500

to purchase dining furniture for our new Pool Pavilion. The pool committee had planned to

purchase six tables and 48 chairs costing $14,000-$15,000 so we are a little shy of our goal.

They will meet and determine whether to hold the proceeds for another year and continue

using the cloth covered tables under the pavilion or

decide what course of action to take. I am sure many of you have noticed

the beautiful Bellefonte “B” on the bottom of our pool…Don Lentz assisted

Vincenzo Fressola with the layout while Russell High School art students

Shelby Halter, Oliva Adkins and Shelly Gupta along with Vinessa and Enzo

Fressola assisted with the painting. Thank you guys!

We have changed our way of handling food service at the pool this year.

The new addition to our concession stand provides us the needed space to

prepare food poolside. In the past, all orders were prepared in the Clubhouse

kitchen, picked up by service staff, and brought to you at the pool.

Sometimes things were forgotten, and the pool staff had to return to the

Clubhouse kitchen time and time again. If a large party walked into the

Clubhouse Grill Room, your order at the pool went in behind that order, and

vice versa, creating long waiting periods for members at either location. The

new procedures now in place should give you much quicker food service.

Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken, Steaks, Fish, etc., will be grilled poolside

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

and Fridays, Saturdays and holidays from 11:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Mondays

will remain, as in the past, concession stand orders only. The new pool menu

is posted at the front of the concession stand and has a variety of salads,

sandwiches and entrees. One window is for placing orders, while the other

window is for picking up orders. Memorial Day weekend was our grand

opening and we had a few bumps along the way. We do apologize and are working toward taking care of those glitches

and giving you faster service with great food! We now have a bar available at the pool, so stop by and check out the new

menu…relax and have a tropical drink with your lunch or dinner!

An update on our Tennis Program, the Board of Directors has approved paving the tennis courts! We are hoping to

begin this process by the end of June. A search committee has also been formed to hire a Director of Tennis, with these

changes, we hope to make Bellefonte’s Tennis Program the best it can be and exceed your expectations!

Members may choose their lockers by registering in the Golf Pro Shop on Saturday, June 30th at 8:00 a.m. Later that

day, the Club will host an Open House from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., allowing members to tour the newly renovated Men’s

Locker Room. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served. Members who are unavailable on registration day, may call the

Club’s office after the initial sign-up and we will be happy to set you up with a locker. The House Committee and Board

have both voted to make the Men’s Locker Room a non-smoking area.

Our Summer Membership Campaign is under way so…if you would like to have some extra cash toward your monthly

dues…ask your family, friends, neighbors or business associates to join the Club and save a $100 per month for every Golf

Member, $50 per month for every Social Member and $25 per month for every Clubhouse Member. There is no limit

on how many credits you can earn! See page 3 for details.

Make your reservations now for our Independence Day Pool Celebration on Wednesday, July 4th. The staff has

planned a great time for you and your family with a picnic, swimming, and, of course, the kids’ favorite – inflatables.

See you at the Club!

Thank you to everyone who attended our Starry

Night summer kick-off party, which was held poolside

here at BCC. Those in attendance were treated to an

evening of great food, wonderful entertainment and

good company. Congratulations to Tom Leach, Steve

"3-way" Towler and our very own Jeff Bostic for walking

away with the cash prizes. It is hard to imagaine that it

is summertime again…by the time you read this the

Pool will be in full swing, the grills will be fired up, and

those warm sunny days will be upon us once again. We

have recieved many compliments regarding our new

“B” shaped logo which is now painted on the bottom of BCC’s pool. Thanks

again to Vincenzo Fressola and his loyal following of volunteers for taking time

from their busy schedules to make our pool look even more beautiful! If you look

around the facilities here at BCC you will notice a variety of projects being completed.

What you also will notice is that many of our members donate their time

to work on these projects. That is what makes BCC what it is today. I am happy

to report that Zann Moore once again will be handling our swimming lessons

here at BCC. I strongly encourage those who have been considering having their

children take lessons to get in touch with Zann as classes fill up quickly. I cannot

stress enough the importance of learning how to swim and Zann's classes are well

taught and designed for all ages. I extend an invitation to all of our newest members

here at BCC to allow me the chance to introduce myself and show them

around our pool facilities. I’ll be glad to answer any questions that members –

both new and longtime – may have regarding policies.

Welcome back friends and don't forget the sunscreen!!!

Golf & Tennis News

In the Bunker

There are “a lot of little details” that are performed on

a regular basis by our grounds crew at Bellefonte Country

Club besides the usual daily mowing by large and noisy

machines. Some of these include:

• Painting the designated yardage markers.

• Yardage stripes on cart paths to help give you a general

indication of how far you are from the green in case you are

not near a sprinkler head yardage marker. These

activities are generally completed in the early part of the

season and usually before June.

• Trimming the other 500 sprinkler heads, valve and electrical boxes around the

golf course on a regular basis.

• We try to get the greens, tees and fairway heads cleaned on a bi-monthly basis.

The outer heads usually get trimmed once or twice per year and the valve boxes

that assist us in isolating fairways, tees and greens from other areas of the golf

course usually 1-2 times per season.

This year we have no major projects in the works and are looking forward to

the general maintenance and upkeep of the golf course.

David Chasteen, Course Superintendent

Pick Your Locker Day & Open House

Dear BCC Golf Members,

On Saturday, June 30, beginning at 8:00 a.m., Members may choose their

lockers by registering in the Golf Pro Shop on a first come - first served basis.

A schematic of the locker room will be available and Members can place

their name on the locker of their choice.

An Open House in the Men’s Locker Room will follow later that day

from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., allowing everyone to tour our newly renovated

Men’s Locker Room. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served.

For those Members who are unable to be present on the registration day,

they may, after the initial sign-up, contact the Office and request a locker in

a particular area of the locker room. Assignments will be made keeping the

Members’ preferences in mind.

Thank you,

The Men’s Locker Room Committee

Courtside

Please join me in welcoming the newest members

of our tennis family, Chase Kindred and Kelsey

Hensley. Chase currently plays for Morehead State

University and is USPTR certified and Kelsey plays at

The College of Charleston. They are beginning full

time with us this month and will be working with both

the adult and junior programs. We are excited to have

Chase and Kelsey join our staff and look forward to our

members meeting them.

Congratulations go out to the Russell and Rose Hill tennis teams for outstanding

seasons this year. Russell High School won the regional and sectional

boys titles and Rose Hill won both the regional and sectional girls titles. At the

regional tournament, players from the BCC program comprised every semifinalist

and finalist in both the boys and girls draws – with one exception.

I am excited about beginning the development of our indoor hard courts,

which will catapult our program forward for many years to come. While court

availability will be affected during the development project, the end result will

provide the flexibility to increase programing by up to 35 perent. Courts 3, 4,

& 5 will be resurfaced and new quick start blended lines will be added. We

appreciate the support that our membership has given our junior tennis

programs and look forward to being able to offer expanded adult programs in

the near future.

I am currently structuring relationships with Head Racket Sports, Solinco

Racket Sports, Pacific Racket Sports (formerly Fischer Racket Sports), Gamma

Racket Sports, Yonex Racket Sports and Fila apparel as well as attempting to

acquire corporate sponsorships from two sources for our Junior programs. We

now also have video analysis available for our players.

There is a lot happening with our program and I want all of our members to

know that we are working on multiple levels to move our program forward.

Again, I appreciate our members and am really excited about the future of

tennis here at BCC. Our Golf and Tennis camps are scheduled for the weeks

of June 4th and July 16th. Please call Lisa to reserve your tennis spot in these

camps.

Trey Connell, Tennis Professional

On the First Tee

Congratulations to Ed Radjunas, John Sebastian, Mark

Hanni and Tim Muffley for winning the Kick-off Scramble

with a score of 59. Many

thanks to the 67 members

who participated in the Kickoff

Scramble. This was an

awesome turnout for the first

event of the year!

I would like to remind

everyone that our Men’s

League plays every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Men’s

League is not only a great way to meet new people

but provides you with an opportunity to play golf with people you may have never

played with before. If you would like to join us, please call the golf shop and sign

up before 4:30 p.m. This allows us enough time to pair the teams and have everything

ready by 5:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per player with all proceeds going toward

prizes.
