Straightsol project workshop on Smart Urban Freight Solutions (in collaboration with the

Smartfusion project), Tuesday 3 rd July 2012

Introduction

Straightsol (www.straightsol.eu) and Smartfusion (www.smartfusion.eu) are EU 7 th Framework Cooperation

Work Programme sister projects aiming to provide cutting edge solutions and evaluation

methods for urban freight logistics.

They are also part of the European Green Cars Initiative (www.green-cars-initiative.eu), whose

objective is to support R&D on technologies and infrastructures that are essential for energy

efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources in road transport.

The aims of this workshop are to provide information about the work being undertaken, to

encourage critical debate about the problems and solutions, and to discuss how results can be

effectively transferred and exploited by other cities around Europe.

10.20-11.15 Introduction to the Straightsol demonstrations (Tom Cherrett, University of

1. Remote monitoring of charity donation banks

2. Rail tracking and warehouse management

3. Standardising information in retail supply chain management and last-mile distribution

4. Night-time distribution

5. Loading/unloading operations management and regulations

6. Urban consolidation centre (Miquel Estrada, CENIT)

7. City logistics mobile depot and use of environmentally-friendly vehicles (Sara Verlinde, Vrije

Universiteit Brussels (VUB))
