Ceramide-based formulas demonstrate a slight lag time from utilization

to effect, as they penetrate the SC layer and actually integrate

into the lamellar secretory system. This contribution to the SC is evidenced

by an ex vivo study, showing that topically applied ceramide 6

was effectively incorporated into 10 stripped layers of SC. 38,39
