Carmel Catholic Fine Arts Students Participate in District VII Illinois Music
Educators Association Music Festival
Mundelein, IL— 11/21/2008—Carmel Catholic High School recently participated in the
Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) District VII Senior Division Music Festival at
Evanston Township High School in Evanston.
Over 2000 high school students auditioned in early October for an opportunity to participate
in the festival. Over 500 students from over 55 schools performed. Three students from
Carmel Catholic performed—one in each division—orchestra, choir and band. The students
were: Pascal Look (viola, Senior High Honor Orchestra) Ashleen Davey (Senior High Honor
Choir) and Laura Biersteker (flute, Senior High Honor Band). The students participated in
rehearsals throughout the day with nationally known conductors and musicians. The event
culminated with a beautifully choreographed concert.
“This was the best District VII music festival I have ever attended. The venue was filled with
parents, music directors, educators and students. I am always so proud of our Carmel students.
They excelled and the music festival was a fantastic experience for the students involved,”
said Kent Parry, Choral Director, Carmel Catholic High School.
Carmel Catholic parent, Mary Jo Biersteker said, “It was amazing to see how much work was
involved, not only on the students part, but also the music directors. Kent Parry, David
Wiebers and Mahjabeen Karim's hard work was very evident at the event, as it is every day.
I'm sure they were proud to see a student from each area—orchestra, choir and band attend
the festival. I can't even imagine how many extra hours the music directors put in each and
every day to help their students excel. The concert was just fabulous—one of the best I have
seen by the District VII music groups.”
IMEA's District 7 Senior Festival will be re-broadcast on Saturday, December 6 at 9 a.m. to
10 a.m. on 98.7 FM.
Carmel Catholic seniors, Laura Biersteker and Ashleen Davey, could possibly qualify for state
participation.
