of the Lord to the Gentiles.
They followed a star that led
them to find the Infant King, Redeemer
and Savior of the World!
What a wonderful part of the
Christmas Season is the Feast of the
Three Kings. Many families take
down their tree after the Epiphany—but
Christmas continues one
more week until the Baptism of the
Lord. And since Christmas comes
but once a year—we let it stretch into
the snow white days of January!
So while we put the ornaments and
decorations away we don’t put into
hiding the spirit of Christmas.
Christ Jesus came out of love and is
love for each and every one of us.
While the 3 Kings brought gifts to
the Infant it was the Child that
brought the true gifts—not gold,
frankincense or myrrh but love,
mercy, and grace.
I hope your week is blessed. Remember
those who are ill in your
prayers and those who have asked

t is customary, on
the Feast of the
Epiphany, to announce
Easter and the
movable Feasts for the
new year. Saturday, February 2nd is the
Feast of the Presentation of the Lord –known
also as Candlemas Day. This ancient festival
marks the midpoint of winter, halfway between
the shortest day and the spring equinox.
It is in the secular world Groundhog
Day! But all of that is related to the fact that
the Light –giving sun (SON) is increasing as
winter begins to give way to Spring. It also
means that Lent is just around the corner as
Ash Wednesday and the Lenten Fast is on
February 13th. SPRING begins
March 20th with the vernal equinox
which triggers Holy Week.
Palm Sunday is March
24th and EASTER is
on Sunday, March 31st. An early
Easter!
But for now—it is winter—one more week
of the Christmas Season and then we celebrate
the Baptism of the Lord!

the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision,
Roe v Wade (1973), all dioceses of the United
States shall observe a day of Prayer for the Legal
Protection of Unborn Children.’ On that day we
will have Mass at 11 a.m. AND 7 p.m. Eucharistic
Adoration will be conducted for one half hour following
the 11 a.m. Mass and one half hour before
the 7 p.m. Mass.

The Epiphany of the Lord
When people in the entertainment industry reach a top
level of fame and expertise in their profession, we talk about
them as having a lot of star power. These are the men and women
who eclipse lesser lights in the entertainment constellation.
No matter the generation, there are always names like Monroe,
Taylor, Burton, Olivier, McCartney, Springsteen, Madonna,
Hanks, Streep, or Sarandon who will shine brighter than others
who will also have their name inscribed on the Walk of Fame.
Stars at this level of their craft can basically ask for whatever
they want because they are sought after by just about everyone.
Their performances, whether a live concert or on the screen,
have the ability to unite people in a common experience.
The real "star" of Matthew's Gospel today is not the
one that appears in the sky to the Magi. Yes, that star is an important
sign-it led the Magi from the east to Jerusalem where
they learned of the prophecy about Bethlehem. That star led
them to the home of the Child they would worship. This Child is
the real star of the Gospel story. He comes into the world. In the
midst of conflict and division, exemplified by Herod's distrust
and fear, Jesus comes as the newborn king to save his people
from their sins. As Matthew tells it, Jesus is the One who unites
faithful Jew and believing Gentile bringing together all those
who would seek the truth and follow his teaching.
The feast of the Epiphany celebrates the manifestation
of Christ to the world. His revelation means that people must
choose whether to follow him or not. Herod had that choice. So
did the Magi. Men and women from every race and nation come
to Christ. Once they choose to follow Christ, they become
brothers and sisters of one another. Christ unites all believers in
a common experience, his call to love. That's star power beyond
imagining!

The St. Colette CARE MINISTRY is a group dedicated to serving
the needs of parishioners in time of sickness and death. Some
services include hosting funeral luncheons, distributing Eucharist
to the homebound, baking and planning memorial Masses for
deceased loved ones 2-3 times a year. The CARE ministry is
looking for volunteers to help out. If you are interested, contact
Cathy Thies at 440-572-1736. For more information, contact
the parish office or call Cathy Thies and please check out the
CARE ministry at the St. Colette web site.

Communal Mass
The Daughters will celebrate Mass together this Sunday,

Line Dancing
The Daughters are presenting an evening of line dancing
with Brunswick Rec Center’s instructor, Eunice
Kollar, this Wednesday, January 9th at 7pm in the Parish

Board Meeting

Holy Hour
On Thursday, January 17th a Blessed John of Vercelli
Holy Hour will be held at St. John Bosco Church,
6480 Pearl Rd., Parma Hts. The Holy Hour will begin
with benediction at 6:45pm. This will be followed by
Mass at 7pm. After the Holy Hour, there will be refreshments
in the Bell Tower. It is hoped that many of
you will be able to attend.
2013 Catholic School Scholarship
We are now accepting applications for the Holy Name
Society bi-annual $500 scholarship to help offset tuition
costs at the Catholic Elementary and High School
level. We will accept applications until February 12th,
which can be found in the Atrium on the information
table. The drawing will be held on February 14th at
the Holy Name meeting. This is funded by the semiannual
pancake breakfasts.
Pancake Breakfast
Our next “All you can eat pancake breakfast” will be
held on Sunday, January 20th. Come and enjoy pancakes,
eggs, sausage, fried potatoes and the friendship
