Continental to Acquire 51 Percent of Matador Rubber Group (Finishing from p. 1) In 2006 Matador Group had 4,770 employees and posted sales of approx. €450 million. “With this strategic alliance we will further improve the quality and volume of Matador tire production, open new markets and increase the value of the Matador brand. We are, moreover, also strengthening our position in Automotive - our second strategic business. After excellent experiences with our truck tire joint venture, we are sure that this partnership will be the best solution for the future of Matador and also for our employees,” said Štefan Rosina, CEO of the Matador Rubber Group. “In combining forces and experience, we will improve our market positions in Central and Eastern Europe and get additional sales opportunities in Russia, Ukraine and the Stan States. Especially our position in Russia will be expanded, as we are not only improving our access to the market but getting a production facility in Omsk as well,” Wennemer emphasized. “Operationally we intend to integrate Matador into our brand portfolio and invest in expanding annual production capacities for PLT from 5.5 to more than 7 million. This gives us a highly efficient tool to be used against low-cost competition.” Wennemer added. The Matador machinery factory in Puchov will be integrated into the machinery factory in Hanover-Stöcken as a second pillar. On top of that, Continental gets additional capacities for research and development. The ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group also stands to benefit from the acquisition. “Adding Matador’s business to ours makes sense strategically,” said Gerhard Lerch, member of Continental’s Executive Board and responsible for the ContiTech division. “The company is very well-positioned in the Eastern Europe.” With a workforce of 160, Matador manufactures a wide range of textile belts in Slovakia. The ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group has eight locations in Chile, China, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, and Mexico. With its approximately 2,700 employees, it posted sales of €379 million in 2006. The Continental Corporation is a leading automotive supplier of brake systems, chassis components, vehicle electronics, tires and technical elastomers. In 2006 the corporation realized sales of EUR14.9 billion. At present it has a worldwide workforce of around 85,000. MATADORLIFE TEST OF THE AUTO MOTO A ŠPORT: MP 46 HECTORRA 2 FROM MATADOR WAS EVALUATED AS „RECOMMENDED“ The new tyre MP 46 HECTORRA 2 from the Slovak producer – the company Matador – achieved very good results in an independent test of the magazine Auto Motor a Šport. After testing of various driving properties, the experts categorised this tyre into the category “recommended”. The comparative test demonstrated, that among its best properties are low rolling resistance and short braking distance on wet and dry surfaces. This tyre was also one of the best in handling. Very good handling on wet and dry surfaces, good braking, acceptable noise level on good surfaces and solid springing comfort,” this general statement expressed Slovak experts from the magazine Auto Motor a Šport in connection to the Slovak tyre HECTORRA 2 on the basis of the test results. According to experts, the Matador tread pattern demonstrated balanced characteristics in all tests on dry and wet surfaces. The only weak point is aquaplaning, and in near future this will be an inspiration for developers of Matador in order to achieve improvement. Ten tyres of the HP and UHP segment from different world producers were compared in the mentioned test. They were tested on the Škoda Octavia RS vehicle and the guarantor of correct measurements was an independent certified company Vipotest. The TBA Matador Racing team did not finish the race in first place due to a technical failure with their car. The petrol tank on their car got punctured only three stages before the end of the event and the unfortunate team got stuck in the desert only three kilometres before the finish. The rally, attended by more than 100 teams from several countries around the world, was 8,760 kilometres long. The race started halfway through January in Budapest and the drivers gradually drove through Hungary, Austria, Italy, France and Spain to Morocco on the African continent and further across the Western Sahara, Mauritania and Mali, to the finish in Bamako. The race was attended by 108 teams from Canada, USA, Great Britain, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Byelorussia, Russia and India. Last year, the same type of tyres also 3 – ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE. This new tyre will be launched within the complete assortment of sizes for the summer season 2008. MP 46 HECTORRA tread pattern is designed for the operation of vehicles of high and luxury class with the highest performance during summer. Its designation for driving high performance vehicles at increased speeds is secured by excellent braking properties and reliable handling on wet and dry surfaces as well as high resistance against aquaplaning. Safety of operation of high-performance vehicles is one of the most important criteria of size dimensioning of this tread pattern series. In comparison to its predecessor MP45, the asymmetric type of tread pattern of this new up-to-date concept provides demanding and sport-oriented drivers with improved handling and safety on dry and wet road surfaces. Matador will launch in total 15 sizes of the MP 46 Hectorra 2 tread pattern in 16” to 20” sizes within the highest speed categories: V up to 240 km/h, W up to 270 km/h. and Y up to 300 km/h. brought success to the Slovak team – Jozef Sýkora and Marek Sýkora, in individual national cross country rallies. In the Baja competition series, MP 75 WISENTTA Sport Extra tyres helped the Matador Motorsport team to gain the title of Vice-champions of Europe.
