6 New fast drying epoxy on the market It is a two-component polyamide adducts cured, high build epoxy paint. It combines relatively high volume solids, low VOC content with a short drying time and no maximum recoating interval. HEMPADUR 47960, which contains zinc phosphate, is characterized by high productivity as well as long lasting and durable protection against corrosion and many chemicals. The product is ideal for multi-coat applications, where primers and intermediates are applied in shop and topcoats on site. Physical constants HEMPADUR 47960: Volume solids, %: 75 ± 1 Theoretical spreading rate: 6.0 m2 /litre – 125 μm Flash point: 24°C Specifi c gravity: 1.0 kg/litre Dry to touch: 2 hours at 20 °C Fully cured 7 days at 20 °C V.O.C. : 250 g/litre Recoating min. 3 hours at 20 °C, max. none to epoxy and polyurethane By using HEMPADUR 47960 you will release less VOC to the atmosphere and therefore you will comply with SED 1960 l 1333 l The consumption of paint can be cut down by applying HEMPADUR 47960 insted of standard product. HEMPADUR 47960 New protective coating offers substantial savings Hempadur 47960 has been launched in Southern Europe this year. Nick Frowen, Business Unit Manager for the UK explains: “We wanted something that was VOC compliant, gave off low solvent emissions, was high build, could be applied in one coat and was fast drying. The result is Hempadur 47960 which delivers cost savings of between 15% and 18%.” The new coating can be used as a primer, intermediate or single coat system and it is available in a range of colours. Typically it is applied by airless spray or by brush for smaller areas. “We have been promoting it ahead of the launch with regular trials. So far it has gone down very well and we’ve been getting a lot of interest in it,” says Nick. “Customers like the way it applies, the drying times and the fact that it’s competitively priced.” One of the most impressive examples of the benefi ts of Hempadur 47960 can be demonstrated by a recent trial in Northern Ireland. Nick concludes: “We did a trial there where a customer is currently using another Hempel product. However if they change to Hempadur 47960 they reduce their annual consumption by 8,000 litres and their solvent emissions by 6 tons. Previous emissions were 19 tons so to reduce that by 6 is nearly a 30% saving for them.” HEMPADUR 47960 Possibilities of use of the new HEMPADUR 47960 paint HEMPADUR 47960 is suitable for any steel structure, ideal for new constructions and effective both for shop and fi eld application where fast curing is required. It is a quite new regulation that applies to all companies using chemical substances in various forms and applications in the EU countries. A prime aim of this step, whose consequences will directly affect the functioning of the Hempel company, is further increasing of human health protection. Registration The regulation requires Registration (gathering and submitting of information on chemical substances) of all existing chemical substances, which are being imported to the EU countries in amounts bigger than 1 t per year, by 2011. Our company has been preparing for the registration process for a long time by means of consistent and intensive communication within the supplier-customer chain. Evaluation The Evaluation of information provided in terms of registration will be verifi ed by responsible bodies of member countries, which can in certain cases restrict or prohibit the use of some chemical substances. Hempel representatives closely cooperate with relevant institutes on national and transnational level in legislative as well as expert areas. Authorisation The implementation of REACH is also connected with permission (Authorization) of exceptionally hazardous chemical substances. The list of these substances will be available in 2009. The substances that are subject to authorization will need permission for each concrete application. Hempel also responds to this part of the regulation by issuing a preventive list of substances that might be subject to permission, whereas the company is already intensively trying to fi nd alternatives to such chemicals. Hempel adopts REACH - EU’s new chemicals legislation REACH CHemical Registration Evaluation Authorisation CHemicals The CHemical industry will therefore see a moment when some raw materials and products will probably disappear from the market. The use of chemical substances within the European Union will require more intense communication among the manufacturer, the applicator and the user in all respects in order to reach compliance with REACH. CHANGHONG Electronics CHANGHONG Electronics, one of the biggest TV makers in China, built a TV production base in the Czech Republic. The contractor of the project, SKANSKA CZ, requested protective paints with easy and short application time for the fast erecting production hall of plasma TV sets. The area to be covered was 17.000 sqm, located in Nymburk, Central Bohemia. HEMPEL met the requirements and supplied 8.000 litres of HEMPADUR MASTIC 4588W, HEMPEL’s new fast drying epoxy midcoat. The application firm, Proficolor, was very satisfied with the fastness and easiness of the application process. CONTAINER SERVICE GROENENBOOM B.V. (C.S.G.) HEMPEL Holland has secured a supply contract with Container Service Groenenboom B.V. (C.S.G.), one of Netherlands biggest repair and container application companies. C.S.G. has a solid commitment with customers such as Hitachi, AVR and Hamburg-Sud. HEMPEL provides approximately 30.000 litres of paints annually to C.S.G. The new products in HEMP- EL’S assortment, such as HEMPADUR MASTIC 4588W and HEMPATHANE HS 55610, have been very well accepted. The applicators have expressed satisfaction with the short drying time, the smooth surface effect and the compliance with environmental legislations of the new products.
