Programme overview The course is divided into seven modules as follows: Module 1: Conduct Moderation Following on the Higher Certificate in ETD, the Diploma starts off with Moderation. The moderator role is of critical importance in ensuring fairness, validity and reliability in an assessment system. It contributes directly to quality assurance and ensures that the assessment function is consistent and accountable to its various stakeholders. Upon successful completion of this module, learners are able to register as moderators with their relevant ETQA. Module 2: Devise Special Needs Interventions It has become noticeable that training and development practitioners in South Africa are not fully equipped to facilitate learning for candidates with special needs. These “special needs” encompass a broad range of physical and other challenges. Given the need to embrace greater diversity in the learning environment, particularly stemming from employment equity requirements and the ideal of inclusive education, practitioners must be able to manage learners with special needs confidently. Module 3: Generate Standards and Qualifications Ensuing from the design and development standards that were covered as part of the Higher Certificate in ETD Practice, this module enables learners to generate not only individual unit standards in a specific field, but also to bring them all together to forge integrated qualifications in that field. Moreover, the module focuses on the project management competencies that are required in the context of design/ development undertakings. Module 4: Facilitate Skills Development - Part 1 The role of skills development facilitator (SDF) is especially important in light of the Skills Development Act and Skills Development Levy Act. Unfortunately, this role is often seen as an administrative function rather than the specialised consulting function it is meant to be. Part 1 of the SDF series contained in the diploma focuses on the forerunner elements of analysis, skills audits and integration in an overarching organisational training and development plan. These steps form the basis for the formulation and implementation of the workplace skills plan (WSP). Module 5: Facilitate Skills Development - Part 2 Linking up with Part 1 of the SDF series, Part 2 continues with the process by explaining skills development administration and the coordination of skills development interventions. This
module deals with the criteria, content and implementation of the WSP, while linking up with the criteria and content of the annual training report (ATR). The module strives to remind learners that these documents fulfil more than the purpose of compliance, and that they are integral to the quest for competitiveness in the 21st century. Module 6: Manage Quality in ETD Quality has become a non-negotiable component of any successful business in the new world of work. This same principle applies to the field of ETD. Any organisation providing training and development interventions to clients (either internal or external) is accountable for relevant, credible, ethical and sustainable delivery and results. This module provides learners with the competence to design and develop a quality management system (QMS) in collaboration with stakeholders. It also reminds learners of the critical criteria for evaluating ETD providers, services and products so that informed decisions can be made. Module 7: Manage HRD Information Systems There is often confusion with regard to the relationship between ETD, HRD and HRM. This module provides information on the interwoven nature of these disciplines, while showing learners how to make use of technology as an enabler for securing the best possible results in the field of “human resources”. Any organisation providing training (either to internal or external clients) has to make use of a comprehensive and relevant information system for the capturing, storage, retrieval and review of critical data. This information system should assist the organisation in working “smarter” rather than harder. Integrated examination portfolio We believe that the ability to integrate theory, practice and reflection is best demonstrated through the completion of a workplace-based portfolio of evidence. As such, the final integrated examination portfolio will bring the various diploma outcomes together so that learners can demonstrate their managerial, strategic and systemic competencies in the field. A study route without a ceiling After obtaining the Diploma in ETD, learners may further their studies in the field of ETD by continuing with the Degree in ETD. Entry requirements The minimum requirements for a prospective learner are: •• a Higher Certificate in ETD; •• employed with at least five years’ experience in ETD; •• Grade 12, NSC or equivalent with Mathematics and English (secondlanguage level or its equivalent will be acceptable); •• proficiency in English writing and speaking; •• occupational or subject expertise. 12
