Drama
The Drama department is very busy at the
moment rehearsing for our senior production
‘Grease’. Script and choreography rehearsals
are well under way and students have shown
much positivity and enthusiasm for the project.
We have high hopes the production will
be a sell out just like previous Stanwell productions.
The AS and A level students recently visited
The Theatre Royal in Bath to see a production
of Noel Coward’s ‘Blythe Spirit’. The students
were excited to meet stars of stage and
screen such as Alison Steadman who plays
Pamela in the hit TV programme ‘Gavin and
Stacey’. Hermione Norris who has appeared
in ‘Cold Feet’, ‘Spooks’ and recently the
Miss R Davies
spooky ITV Drama’ A bouquet of barbed wire’.
Another star from Spooks, Robert Bathurst made
up the cast with West End Star Ruthie Henshall
also appearing.
Class work is going very well with year 7 enjoying
studying Welsh Folk stories, year 8 studying
‘Bugsy Malone’ and year 9 looking at Willy
Russell’s famous musical play ‘Blood Brothers’.
The recent year 9 assessment was a credit to the
talented performers we have here at Stanwell.
Year 10 have been shocked by the real life case
of Derek Bentley and are currently in the process
of their very first devised piece. This means that
students create completely original drama from
scratch based on a stimulus. With such a serious
stimulus I have been impressed by students’ sensitivity
and maturity.
Year 11 are just about to complete 30 % of their
controlled assessment and we wish them very
well with this. Year 12 and 13 are also about to
embark on practical coursework. Good luck to
them too.
Extra curricular activities have been impressive
this term with
Lowri Protheroe,
Leilah Harriet
and Seren Vickers
being part of The
Royal Welsh College
of Music and
Drama’s Young
Actors Studio.
Many students are
also considering
auditioning to be
part of the prestigious
National
Youth Theatre of Wales. We wish them all the
best.
The following sixth form pupils are planning to
audition for Drama School or do a degree in the
subject: Lowri Protheroe, Alex Mancuso,
Emma Campbell and Alex Varney.
And remember ’Grease is still the word!’.
