In Conflicts and Conquests, I’ll tell you the
difficult truth about my youth — my humble
beginnings as the son of an alcoholic nightclub
entertainer. I’ll share the inside story about how
God got a hold of my family. (This episode alone
will give you renewed faith to believe God for the
salvation of your own unsaved loved ones!) I’ll
also take you with me as I support my family
during hard times, as my father goes to college
to prepare for the ministry after his conversion.

mission field, leaving me behind, at seventeen
years of age. (My father apologized as he
departed saying: “Son, I can’t even give you a
five-dollar bill.”) You’ll learn to lean on the
promises of God just as I did!
To help my parents financially overseas, I
held just about every job one can imagine. From
the age of 14, I used to stand on the street corners
with the Detroit News, the Times, and the Free
Press, shouting, “Extra! Extra! Read all about it!”
Next I had 175 customers on multiple paper routes
— I would ride my bicycle all over the area with
an enormous, bulging load of newspapers. I also
worked at a golf course, carrying bags for four
golfers at a time on a cart. I worked at a fruit
stand. I worked as an accordion teacher. With no
car, I got around on a motor scooter! And I
trusted God on the basis of Philippians 4:19: “But
my God shall supply all your need according to
his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” And He did!
I’ll show you how God will also provide for you.
You’ll also “be there” as I get my start in
ministry, playing the accordion at Billy Graham
services — and as God leads me to begin preaching.
There will be close calls — like when my finger
was nearly cut off in an accident before a concert
— and there will be opposition. (By preachers

Dr. Jack Van Impe
A Gospel Giant with 2 Million Souls in His Account
Over the years I have grown to know Dr. Jack Van Impe as a
personal friend and as one of the spiritual giants of the Gospel.
For sixty years, he has stead-fastly preached the Gospel to
millions. Today we know him as a television preacher,
broadcasting to every nation on earth.
But for forty years Dr. Van
Impe preached 240
citywide crusades and
800 church crusades with more
than 10 million people attending.
Through television and in
crusade preaching nearly 2
million people accepted Christ
as their personal Savior while
listening to Dr. Van Impe. The
reason Dr. Jack Van Impe is so
successful at winning souls is
that he adheres to the Bible
and preaches the Blood, the
Resurrection, the Power and
anointing of the Holy Spirit and
the Return of Jesus Christ.
Many know Dr. Van Impe as
the Walking Bible. Miraculously,
he has memorized over 15,000
verses of the 31,102 verses of
the Bible. During every telecast,
Dr. Van Impe quotes numerous
scriptures as if he is reading a
teleprompter. I have been in
his studio and he uses no such
device.
At an early age, Jack heard
the call to ministry and attended
the Detroit Bible College. His
professors encouraged him to
memorize scripture. During his
ordination service he recited
500 scripture verses. I asked
Jack, “why do you quote so
many Scriptures”? He answered
“the opinions of men are
meaningless, it is the Word of
God that wins every debate”.
Then he quoted Hebrews 4:12,
“For the word of God is quick,
and powerful, and sharper than
any two-edged sword, piercing
even to the dividing asunder of
soul and spirit, and of the joints
and marrow, and is a discerner
of the thoughts and intents of
the heart.”
One of Jack’s favorite
passages is Hebrews 9:22
“Without the shedding of blood
there is no remission of sin.”
The Blood of Christ has been
the centre of every sermon Dr.
Van Impe has delivered. Many
preachers today are afraid to
preach about sin and judgment;
they fear such preaching may
cause some to leave, a drop in
popularity or even decreased
collections. They appear to
pattern their ministry after Dr.
Phil or Anthony Robbins rather
than Jesus Christ, but not Dr.
Van Impe. He recently pointed
out to viewers that the Bible
speaks of sin and judgment
over 1,400 times, therefore we
must preach the Blood in
season or out as commanded
by 2 Timothy 4:2-4 that says,
“Preach the word; be instant in

season, out of season; reprove,
rebuke, exhort with all long
suffering and doctrine. For the
time will come when they will
not endure sound doctrine; but
after their own lusts shall they
heap to themselves teachers,
having itching ears; And they
shall turn away their ears from
the truth, and shall be turned
unto fables.”
His first public ministry
was on the platform with Billy
Graham at a Youth for Christ
Rally in London, Ontario. At the
age of 17, his parents moved to
Belgium as missionaries and
left young Jack alone to support
himself and their missionary
work. Jack worked hard as he
sold newspapers on the corner,
serviced paper routes, was a
golf course caddy, fruit stand
operator and accordion teacher.
He learned that God’s Word
was true when it says “My God
shall supply all your needs”
(Philippians 4:19).
After working with Youth
for Christ at many large events,
God called Jack to step out
and preach saying “woe is me
if I preach not the Gospel” (1
Corinthians 9:16). As he
preached the resurrection of
Jesus Christ many believed and
gave their lives to the Lord.
Jack proclaims Christ who said
“And I, if I be lifted up from the
earth, will draw all men unto
me” (John 12:32). His church
crusades began to grow in
number and size filling some
of the largest churches in the
country,
Hundreds of pastors called
upon Jack to come and preach,
so he started to gather churches
together, city-by-city to hold
larger events. God blessed his
message as he remained faithful
to the central focus of the
Gospel, the shedding of the
Blood and the Resurrection of
Christ. For the next three
decades, Jack and his wife
Rexella ministered in 240 cities
in every state filling arenas,
coliseums and stadiums. In
Hershey, Pennsylvania more
than 10,000 people filled the
stands every night and
hundreds received Christ.
His life changing message
stirred many to protest as they
did not like holiness preaching
against alcohol, cigarettes,
drugs and crime. Seven times
the Van Impe’s endured serious
death threats but they stood on
Isaiah 54:17 that promises: “No
weapon that is formed against
thee shall prosper.”
The Lord protected the Van
Impe’s not only from the known
threats, but also the unknown.
After the last evening meeting
of a crusade in Wichita Kansas,
Rexella told Jack that she was
tired and was going to slip out
of the back after the invitation
and go to the hotel to rest. She
walked the 2 blocks to the
hotel all alone and went to
their room on the 7 th floor. Not
long after that, she heard Dr.
Van Impe yelling out in the
hallway. When he stepped out
of the elevator on the 7 th floor
he saw a man lying on the floor
looking under the door where
Rexella was. Dr. Van Impe
grabbed him, picked him up off
the floor and asked him what
he was doing. The man said
that he had come out of his
room across the hall and must
have fainted and that was
where Dr. Van Impe found him.
After he left the Van Impe’s
discovered that no one else
was staying on the floor that
night. Then in 2005 Dr. Van
Impe was reading the paper
when he saw the picture of
Dennis Rader, the BTK killer
and he turned to Rexella and
told her that he thought that this
was the man who was looking
under her door in Wichita.
In Mark 16:15 Jesus said
“Go ye into all the world, and
preach the gospel to every
creature.” Dr. Van Impe
expanded his ministry overseas
and preached under the Power
of the Holy Spirit in more than
50 countries. In Panama, the
communist revolutionaries
took over the country and
threatened Dr. Van Impe’s life.
His meetings grew so large
they had to move into the open
air where Dr. Van Impe could
have easily been shot. God
protected them as they moved
on to the Philippines where
President Ferdinand Marcos
gave approval for Dr. Van Impe
to go into the Universities and
minister to the youth. In just
one month 6,514 new converts
met Christ. The Van Impe’s
then moved on to Seoul, South

Korea and may other countries.
Throughout his years as an
Evangelist, Dr. Van Impe knew
of the importance of preaching
the Return of Christ. Jesus was
a prophecy preacher therefore
we must follow His example.
Remember it was Christ that
sent His angel to give the
message of the book of
Revelation to John (Revelation
22:16). Jesus preached about
His return in Matthew 24; Mark
13, and in Luke 17 and 21. 1
Thessalonians 4:18 tells us to
comfort one another with the
message of the Rapture. The
preaching of prophecy leads
millions of souls to Christ
every year therefore it must be
proclaimed.
After seeing over 1 million
accept Christ, God spoke to Dr.
Van Impe in the late 80’s. He
showed him how he could
reach more souls for Christ on
television than in crusades. The
average cost of a live crusade
was $10 per attendee. Through
television Dr. Van Impe could
reach souls with the same
message for less than 3 cents
per person. Drs. Jack and
Rexella made the decision to
go on TV and then traveled to
Belgium to see his relatives
where the Devil tried to stop
them. A bus went out of control
and landed on their car. Dr. Van
Impe was shaken up but was
okay. Rexella however was
thrown from the car and lay
unconscious on the pavement.
Jack prayed for her survival
and she awakened, but with
serious injuries and broken
bones.
Three weeks later with her
arm in a cast, Dr. Jack and
Rexella began their television
ministry. Today they are seen in
every nation on the globe and
they still deliver the life changing
message of the Gospel of Jesus
Christ.
Dr. Van Impe still loves the
Bible and obeys the verse that
says “Study to show thyself
approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of
Truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). He has
now studied God’s Word for
over 100,000 hours and has read
over 11,000 books. Dr. Van Impe
reads 100 periodicals a week
and one book per day. He has
earned 4 doctorates and has
received 13 honorary doctorates,
including one from Canada
Christian College in 2005.
To this day Dr. Van Impe
remains true to the Gospel.

“MIDEAST ATOMIC PROGRAMS
APOCALYPTIC”
The Jerusalem Post
reports: “Egyptian and Saudi
Arabian intentions to begin or
revive their nuclear programs
in the face of Iran’s continued
race toward nuclear power
present an ‘apocalyptic scenario’
for Israel as well as for the rest
of the world, Strategic Affairs
Minister Avigdor Lieberman
told The Jerusalem Post.
Lieberman’s remarks came a
week after Egyptian President
Hosni Mubarak announced a
decision to restart his country’s
nuclear program… Iranian
President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad announced that
his country had begun
operating 3,000 centrifuges for
the enrichment of uranium.
‘If Egypt and Saudi Arabia
begin nuclear programs, this can
bring an apocalyptic scenario
upon us,’ Lieberman told the
Post. ‘Their intentions should
be taken seriously and the
declarations being made now
are to prepare the world for
when they decide to actually
do it.’
Lieberman also said Pakistan
was a major threat to Israel
due to the political instability
there and the fact that the
country had ‘missiles, nuclear
weapons and a proven
capability.’
‘We hope there will be
stability and the [Pakistani]
nuclear weapons won’t fall into
radical hands,’ he said. ‘If the
Taliban or [al-Qaida leader
Osama] bin Laden get control
[of Pakistan] they will have
nuclear weapons for terror use
and they don’t hide their
opinions about Israel.’
Lieberman, whose office is
in charge of coordinating Israel’s
efforts against the Iranian
threat, blasted International
Atomic Energy Agency chief
Mohamed ElBaradei as a major
obstacle to the West’s efforts to
impose further sanctions on
Iran.
‘He is part of the problem,
not part of the solution,’
Lieberman said. ‘ElBaradei’s
behavior has not succeeded in
solving anything like North
Korea or Libya’s nuclear
programs. And instead of
criticizing Iran, he finds it right
to criticize Israel.’
Lieberman said ElBaradei
was delaying the UN Security
Council’s consideration of a
new round of sanctions by not
publishing the new IAEA
report on the status of Iran’s
nuclear program.
‘They [the IAEA and
ElBaradei] are allowing Iran to
stall for time and to launder its
nuclear program,’ Lieberman
said…” Warn the people
(Ezekiel 3:17-19; Acts
20:31).
GEOLOGIST’S PROPHECY: HOLY
LAND OVERDUE FOR A MAJOR
EARTHQUAKE
The World Tribune reports:
“Based on 400-year historical
cycles and the pattern of recent
tremors, the Middle East should
be expecting a major earthquake
in the near future, a geologist
said.
A leading Israeli geologist
has assessed that the Middle
East, particularly, the Levant,
was ripe for a major earthquake.
The geologist based his forecast
on seismological data as well
as historical patterns.
‘All of us in the region
should be worried,’ Shmuel

Marco, a geologist at Tel Aviv
University, said.
Seismologists have often
warned of the prospect of a
major earthquake in the Middle
East. The Levant has undergone
a series of serious tremors on
the magnitude of five on the
Richter Scale, but without
causing significant damage.
On Nov. 20, an earthquake
measuring 5.1 on the Richter
Scale shook Israel and Jordan.
The earthquake, whose epicenter
was in the area of the Dead Sea,
did not cause major damage.
Marcos, a member of Tel
Aviv University’s Department
of Geophysics and Planetary
Sciences, has sought to predict
the next major earthquake in
the Levant through historical
examination. The geologist has

WORLD
In the light of all that is going
on in our world today it may
sound strange to hear that you
can have peace in a troubled
world. In our beloved country
everyday we have:

• 211 teens are arrested for drug abuse

As shocking as this is, it is
not only a national dilemma, but
also a global plague. Jesus knew
this situation would engulf the
entire world prior to His return
by prophesying that “iniquity
would abound” but He added
“Let not your heart be troubled”.
What did He mean by this
reassuring statement of comfort?
I want to let you in on the
greatest truth I know. Everything
I can say about real peace is
centered in this fact. Without it,
none of us can ever be genuinely
at rest.
This truth has transformed
millions of people throughout
the history of the world. It has
made derelicts into saints,
hypocrites into godly men and
women, and sinners into children
of God. It is the truth of salvation
in Jesus Christ.
The greatest spiritual truth
of all is what God has done to
redeem us from our sin. By giving
His Son to die in our place, God
has paid the price of our sin
and is able to save us from the
bondage and dissatisfaction
that comes with it.
Let me clearly say that I am
not speaking of religion. Many
people who are religious know
nothing about salvation. Religion
is of human origin, and it almost
always requires that we do
something. God’s salvation,
however, is entirely His work
You do not have to work
to make yourself righteous.
You do not have to become deserving of God’s
grace. All the work has been done by God
Himself, and He offers His grace freely to those
who will receive it by faith!
on our behalf. It requires
absolutely nothing, since God
has already accomplished all
that is necessary. Our part is to
simply accept it by faith.
What sin does to us
Some may have difficulty
realizing the fact that all of us
are sinners. Yes, we all know
people who are good, moral,
honest, generous, thoughtful
human beings. Surely they are
not sinners — are they?
From God’s perspective, the
answer is “yes.” Because His
standard is absolute holiness —
one hundred percent perfection
— the issue is not how many
sins we commit or what kind of
sins we commit, but if we have
sinned at all. And Scripture is
clear that none of us can honestly
say we have never chosen to do
wrong: “For all have sinned,
and come short of the glory of
God” (Romans 3:23).
In the presence of absolute
holiness, even the smallest sin
is as offensive and out of place
as the darkest, most heinous
act of evil one can imagine.
Because God is so completely
holy and uncompromisingly
righteous, He cannot permit sin
to exist in His presence. And
the only just penalty for sin is
death, “For the wages of sin is
death” (Romans 6:23).
But just as God is holy,
righteous, and just, Scripture
also informs us that He is a God
of mercy and love. Because of
His great love for us, He does not
wish to condemn us without
mercy. Since in His righteousness
He cannot simply overlook sin,
He found a way that He could
make us righteous without
compromising His own holiness.
However, it cost Him the sacrifice
of His Son!
Perhaps the most familiar
verse in all of Scripture is John
3:16, “For God so loved the
world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not
perish, but have everlasting
life.” That verse, more than any
other, has opened people’s eyes
to the truth of God’s salvation
and the way to real satisfaction.
Salvation explained
What this all means is that
you do not have to earn God’s
approval. You do not have to
work to make yourself righteous.
You do not have to become
deserving of God’s grace. All
the work has been done by God
Himself, and He offers His
grace freely to those who will
receive it by faith!

must simply trust Him with childlike faith and
receive His gift of eternal life.
sense of personal worth than
the truth that God loves us so
much that He gave His Son to
pay the price for our sins. And
nothing on earth brings more
complete satisfaction than the
confidence of knowing you are
secure in God’s salvation.
May I ask you some important
personal questions? What are
you counting on to make
yourself acceptable to God? If
you were to stand before Him
and give an account of your life,
what could you point to that
might make you acceptable to
Him? Would it be your own
works of righteousness? I hope
not, because Isaiah 64:6 says,
“all our righteousnesses are as
filthy rags.” God cannot accept
works of righteousness from
unrighteous people. Would you
point to your heritage?
Scripture is clear that salvation
is not anyone’s birthright. In
fact, Jesus said, “Except a man
be born again, he cannot see
the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).
The only thing any of us can

Christ on our behalf. We must
simply trust Him with childlike
faith and receive His gift of
eternal life (see Romans 6:23).
Be sure
How grateful I am that I was
privileged to grow up in a
Christian home. My parents,
two brothers (Bob and Don),
and I attended a fine church,
and Christianity was our way of
life. By age 5, I was singing in
church and even introducing my
own songs. I loved performing
in church services and felt good

about almost everything in my
life during those early years.
As a little girl, I was impressed
with the importance of telling
others about Jesus. In grade
school, I received permission to
read a Bible story to my class
each day. When I reached junior
high, I witnessed to my
classmates often and invited
many of them to the services
and activities of my church.
Entering high school, I
maintained a positive outward
witness because I loved this
way of life. Still, deep within, I
began to sense that all was not
well in my relationship with God.
Sometimes during those years
serious doubts about my
salvation entered my mind and
my soul. However, I simply
brushed them aside as
groundless. After all, I had
known about the Lord all my
life, and a great part of my time
was occupied in church
activities.
The moment of truth came
during a Sunday evening
service at our church. I was
almost 17, and I was asked to
be the soloist for that very
service. My pastor spoke with
his usual Biblical soundness,
enthusiasm and earnestness,
and although following my solo
I had taken a seat in the rear of
the auditorium, I was well
within reach of the convicting
power of the Holy Spirit.
Before the pastor had
finished his message, I was
aware of my need to trust Christ
as my personal Savior. Unable
to retain my composure, I left
the auditorium and headed for
my parents’ car to be alone.
Seeing my abrupt exit and
tears, my father followed me to
his car and asked “Rexella what
is wrong?”
“Oh, Dad,” I sobbed, “I’ve
deceived my own heart. I’ve
deceived the pastor and you and
our whole church. I have known
about the Lord all my life, but I
don’t really know Him.”
It was a difficult and
emotional moment for my
father — but with wisdom and
love he handled my moment of
decision scripturally and with
compassion. Resisting the
temptation to sooth my
feelings, he tenderly advised,
“Be sure, Rexella.”
A few weeks later, my older
brother (whom I had always
admired and respected for his
consistent Christian life)
learned of my soul’s distress
when he heard me crying in my
room. He knelt beside me and
tenderly led me through God’s
plan of salvation. Although I

freedom and peace filled my
soul! Joy and contentment
became my daily experience,
and since that day I have never
been uncertain about my
standing before God. Since He

the time to look and listen
to the things that our Lord
has forgiven me and paid the
price for my sins with the blood
of His own Son, I know I have
nothing to fear. When I sing, or
serve God in any way (on our
TV program) it is for His glory
and not for the praise of men.
His grace and love to me are
more satisfying than any amount
of money, prestige, or human
recognition could ever be.
The great transition
One of the most powerful
promises of the Bible is that,
once you have become God’s
child, He will never leave you
or forsake you (see Hebrews
13:5). Jesus himself said in John
6:37, “him that cometh to me I
will in no wise [for any reason]
cast out.” And at no time during
one’s life will the knowledge
and comfort of this blessed
promise be more satisfying and
assuring than at the hour though
which each of us must one day
pass — the hour of death.
I know from personal
experience what it is like to face
death and then to be spared by
the omnipotent hand of God. I
have also seen, from a human
perspective, the completion of
this transition in the lives of
children of God who were very
near and dear to me — my
father and mother. Therefore, I
can tell you truthfully and
experientially that there is no
greater peace — both for the
one who is passing and those
who are left behind — than to
know that when a believer’s life
on earth ends, he is immediately
ushered into the presence of
Jesus for all eternity.
Our Blessed Hope
I love this time of the year!
Spring ushers in with great
enthusiasm and beauty the
celebration of Easter. Spring is
a time of re-birth, a time of the
earth awakening from a long
Winter’s sleep. Easter is a time
of celebration of our Lord’s
victory over sin and death. Each
year at this time we remember
the sacrifice of Jesus and His
death on the Cross, His burial,
and then three days later His
glorious Resurrection.
It is because of His
Resurrection that we have
hope. The Apostle Paul
expressed this so beautifully in
I Corinthians 15. I especially
love verses 55-57 “O death,
where is thy sting? O grave,
where is thy victory? The sting
of death is sin; and the strength
of sin is the law. But thanks be
to God, which giveth us the
victory through our Lord Jesus
Christ.”

need to walk outside our

around us whether in the
city or in the country. Every
time I hear the birds chirp I
know they’re praising the
Lord and it makes me
smile. Thank you for being
such a blessing in my life. I
see Jesus in you and that
makes me smile too.
In these days of turmoil,
trouble, and seemingly no
definitive answers to global
problems we can most assuredly
have an everlasting peace in
knowing God is in control and a
better time is coming. It is a
deep soul contentment that
does not fall apart when leaders
of the world forget their peace
negotiations. But because of
His presence in our hearts
resulting from our faith in His
sacrifice on Calvary and His
Resurrection over death we
have a guaranteed peace today
and an eternal life with Him
tomorrow.
