DRAGLINE ROPE
With six or eight outer strands, OneSteel TUFF6 TM and TUFF8 TM mining ropes
offer effective solutions to one of the most demanding rope applications
in the mining industry. Manufactured with class leading machinery at OneSteel’s
Newcastle ropery, TUFF6 and TUFF8 ropes are recommended for use in dragline
applications and are designed to withstand the pressure placed on them by
mining equipment.
OneSteel TUFF6 and TUFF8 mining ropes are the only choice if quality and reliability
are a priority. There is no stronger wire rope manufactured in Australia.
OneSteel TUFF6 mining ropes feature a 6 strand construction. The large diameter
wire used in the outer strands of 6 strand rope has long been the first choice
for mining applications and has proven strength, long service life and abrasion
resistance.
Plus
OneSteel TUFF8 mining ropes feature a compact 8 strand construction in their
design, which provides increased flexibility and allows more equal distribution of
the load, resulting in improved rope life over traditional 6 strand ropes in certain
applications.
With eight outer strands, TUFF8 is more fatigue resistant than 6 strand ropes of
the same diameter, plus its larger surface area puts a wider, smoother outer rope
surface in contact with the sheaves and drums, thus reducing wear.
OneSteel’s REDMAX ® mining ropes feature a plastic-infused independent wire rope core over which the outer strands are closed
to form a rope providing superior performance. A specially engineered polymer is infused at high temperature and pressure,
filling the rope core voids and valleys. This unique treatment reduces rope fatigue from bending by reducing the internal contact
stresses between the strands and core. The plastic-infused core adds considerably to the core support for the outer strands,
further reducing internal stresses and promoting longer service life. The plastic-infused core provides a cushion for the outer
strand and virtually eliminates interlayer contact wear. REDMAX is available in both 6 and 8 strand ropes over 73mm in diameter.
These ropes are recommended when improved bending and fatigue life are required and provide the best overall characteristics
for maximum dragline hoist rope performance.
‘Plus’ Series
OneSteel’s ‘Plus’ series mining ropes feature fibre composite elements that are strategically positioned between the rope
strands and core valleys during construction. These composite elements reduce internal contact pressure between the outer
strands and the wire rope core. This significantly reduces interlayer and strand-to-strand nicking, thus reducing internal wear
and improving fatigue resistance. This feature is available on both TUFF6 and TUFF8 configured ropes over 73mm in diameter.
OneSteel’s ‘Plus’ series mining ropes are recommended for high RSL (rated suspended load) machines.
