A stunning former mansion graduates to the 21st century
Century-old Piper Hall on the Loyola University campus needed to undergo a complete renovation. This included
replacing nearly 100 windows, and replicating their leaded, diamond-lite designs with easy-to-clean, energy-efficient
versions. The Marvin ® team went to extremes to ensure preservation of innumerable original design flourishes, while
delivering state-of-the- art functionality and performance.
Such a complex task seemed overwhelming to the university at first, but Marvin delivered solutions with confidence and
knowledge. Instead of a single product, several design solutions were presented to school officials. For many openings
the perfect look was found through the use of Simulated Divided Lites (SDL). For the unique sidelites, the complicated
window design was replicated in simulated divided lites, the exterior handsomely clad in ebony extruded aluminum.

versions by applying lead tape to both sides of the exterior pane of the insulating
glass on each window — in a pattern that precisely duplicated the original
• y Factory-installed Signature casing saved hours of labor per window, resulting in
consistent, high quality casing and a perfect match for the building’s character and

the unique sizes and shapes involved, a solid piece of aluminum billet was machined
on a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) router to achieve the perfect look
