one-third for the non-HIV households.<br />

Nearly 60 percent of the household<br />

heads in HIV households were in the age<br />

group of 20 to 50 years and in the case<br />

of non-HIV households, this percentage<br />

was lower at 53 percent (Table 3.2).<br />

While about eight percent of the heads<br />

of HIV households belonged to the<br />

51-60 age group, only six percent of the<br />

heads of non-HIV households were in<br />

this age group. Only a small percentage<br />

was above 60 years. Households with<br />

heads aged less than 20 years were<br />

negligible.<br />

The sample mostly included households<br />

whose heads had poor educational<br />

background. The non-HIV household<br />

heads were however comparatively<br />

better educated than the HIV household<br />

heads. About 28 percent of the HIV and 20<br />

percent of the non-HIV household heads<br />
