Dear Parents and Guardians,<br />
Welcome to the <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong> school year at the <strong>Brecksville</strong>-<strong>Broadview</strong> Heights City School District<br />
(BBHCSD). The Parent School Organization (PSO) is pleased to provide you with the District <strong>Calendar</strong>/<br />
Directory for this year. Anyone who has an interest in the BBHCSD is eligible to be a PSO member. The<br />
only membership requirement is payment of dues. A portion of the dues collected are used to fund, assemble<br />
and distribute the <strong>Calendar</strong>/Directory for use inside and outside of the BBHCSD. Many thanks go out to the<br />
BBH families, staff and administration for joining, financially supporting and volunteering for the PSO!<br />
This <strong>Calendar</strong>/Directory has a wealth of information with everything from Athletic Schedules to Email<br />
Addresses. The PSO also highly encourages you to utilize our District Web Site www.BBHCSD.org. Going<br />
to the District Web Site DAILY will ensure that you have the most current and accurate information. The unit<br />
PSO websites can also be accessed from www.BBHCSD.org.<br />
The PSO units provide weekly update emails directly to your inbox to keep members informed.<br />
Please be sure to sign up for these emails! Sign up for these updates at the PSO Council web site,<br />
www.BBHPSOCouncil.com. You can choose which schools and organizations you would like to sign up<br />
for there. Each PSO unit also has monthly meetings or gatherings where you can obtain information, voice<br />
concerns, share ideas or just socialize. These events are held both during the day and evening. If you cannot<br />
make a PSO meeting, the minutes will be posted on line or contact your PSO President for any suggestions,<br />
questions or concerns that you may have. The PSO Council is the guiding hand for the PSO Units. The<br />
PSO Council meetings are held the 1st Thursday of every month at 9:30am in the Education Center.<br />
Information is shared between the Superintendent, Administrators, Staff, PSO Presidents and PSO Council<br />
Representatives at these meetings. All are welcome to attend.<br />
For the twelfth consecutive year, the BBHCSD has earned an “Excellent” rating and a “with Distinction”<br />
last year on the Ohio Department of Education’s Local Report Card. What makes us an “Excellent with<br />
Distinction” school district is the partnership between the Staff/Administration, Parents/Guardians and our<br />
Communities. In order to maintain our tradition of “Excellence in Education” we need your support! Please<br />
consider volunteering for the PSO and making a difference your child’s educational experience.<br />

Clubs and Organizations<br />
Band Boosters (BB)<br />
Band Boosters are the parents and friends of the high school<br />
band members. We work together to promote positive<br />
understanding and support of the band programs among<br />
students, parents, school and community. Our objectives<br />
are to provide the following services and material assistance<br />
to the bands as needed: acquiring, maintaining and replacing<br />
band uniforms; purchasing and/or repairing instruments;<br />
and assisting in the planning and fund raising for trips and<br />
special appearances. Our major fundraisers are the Fall and<br />
Winter Athletic Program sales and the holiday citrus fruit<br />
sale. Our meetings are usually on the first Tuesday of each<br />

Vocal Music Boosters (VMB)<br />
The Vocal Music Boosters Club is an organization<br />
devoted to the support of all facets of the Vocal Music<br />
Department. Fundraisers are held to purchase choir<br />
apparel, underwrite trips, and provide other necessities.<br />
Our primary fundraiser, Ticket to Broadway, will be held<br />
this year on February 10 and 11. This is an exciting and<br />
entertaining evening featuring the talents of Music in Motion<br />
and Commotion and special guest artists. An elegant<br />
hors d’oeuvres/dessert buffet and dancing complete the<br />
evening. Please support our students by attending the<br />
performance and gala, choir concerts, and booster meetings.<br />
Booster meetings are generally held on the third<br />
Tuesday of each month in the Music Theory Classroom.<br />

Bee Athletic Boosters (BAB)<br />
BAB is an active club including parents, faculty, and coaches<br />
who work to foster school spirit and enhance the sports<br />
experience for student athletes in grades 7-12. Funds are<br />
raised through annual membership, a golf outing held in<br />
August, 50/50 raffles, and a Super Bowl Tailgate held in<br />
February. BAB also coordinates individual sport fund raising<br />
in order to assure consistency and minimize overlap. BAB<br />
meets 7:00PM for one hour the first Monday of each month<br />
in the HS media center. BAB is a 501 (c)(3) and accepts<br />

Community leaders formed the <strong>Brecksville</strong>-<strong>Broadview</strong><br />
Heights Schools Foundation in 1993 as a way to provide<br />
programs to enrich the educational experiences of<br />
<strong>Brecksville</strong>-<strong>Broadview</strong> Heights City Schools students.<br />
The Foundation offers scholarships to graduating seniors<br />
and enrichment grants for classrooms and enhances<br />
educational opportunities. Additionally, the Foundation<br />
offers memorial endowment funds to honor or memorialize<br />

P.A.C.E. (Parent Association Committed to Excellence) is<br />

related to the parenting and education of high ability<br />

Orchestra Boosters (OB)<br />
Founded in 1997, this organization is committed to the<br />
support of our high school orchestra students. Orchestra<br />
Boosters help provide funds for instruments, music lessons<br />
for students and scholarships for graduating seniors.<br />
They also help support the students in attending the<br />
yearly orchestra banquet as well as other social events.<br />
Boosters holds an annual Holiday Concert Poinsettia sale<br />
and sells bouquets of flowers to honor your child for his/<br />
her performance. By becoming a yearly Sponsor of the<br />
Orchestra Boosters and/or participating in the meetings,<br />
you will help accomplish these goals. Meetings are held<br />

C.A.P.A. (Chemical Abuse Prevention Association)<br />
C.A.P.A is a non-profit 501c3 organization that was<br />
founded in 1989. It is a unique collaboration between<br />
the cities of <strong>Brecksville</strong> and <strong>Broadview</strong> Heights and the<br />
<strong>Brecksville</strong>-<strong>Broadview</strong> Heights School District. The coalition<br />
is comprised of parents, school and law enforcement<br />
personnel, business professionals, religious leaders, health<br />
providers and other community activists who are mobilizing<br />
at the local level to make the communities of <strong>Brecksville</strong> and<br />
<strong>Broadview</strong> Heights safer, healthier and drug-free.<br />
The C.A.P.A. Coalition is committed to improving overall<br />
health and wellness by sponsoring initiatives that promote<br />
awareness and education of substance abuse and misuse,<br />
and contribute to reducing the incidence of alcohol, tobacco<br />
and drug use among youth and adults.<br />

S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions)<br />
is a peer leadership organization for 9th through 12th grade<br />
students dedicated to preventing destructive decisions,<br />
particularly underage drinking, other drug use, impaired<br />
driving, teen violence and teen depression and suicide. For<br />

H.U.D.D.L.E.<br />
The H.U.D.D.L.E. program is a peer-to-peer mentoring program<br />
in which high school students educate 6th and 8th<br />
grade students on the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other<br />
drugs, while building social skills. In addition, the program<br />
fosters leadership and responsibility among its members<br />
through participation in community events that promote<br />
healthy decision making.<br />
RESPECT<br />
The RESPECT program is an exciting student leadership club<br />
for current 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. Respect<br />
is a program offered through Akron Children’s Hospital as<br />
an initiative to prevent dating violence and to train high<br />
school students to serve as ambassadors who will then help<br />
connect other students who are facing difficult issues with<br />
guidance counselors and other resources.<br />
QUEST<br />
QUEST (Quest for Understanding the Exceptional Student<br />
Together) is an informational and networking group for<br />
parents/guardians of children with special needs (preschool<br />
through 12th grade and beyond) in the <strong>Brecksville</strong>-<br />
<strong>Broadview</strong> Heights School System. QUEST was founded to<br />
improve communication between parents and professionals<br />
dealing with the exceptional child on a daily basis and to<br />
become an information source for parents, educators, and<br />
the community. Our goal is to attain a quality education<br />
for these students so that each can make a difference in<br />

August, September <strong>2012</strong><br />
Lunch menus for August and September will be available on the district website by the end of<br />
June. For families without on-line computer access, we will have limited copies available at the<br />
beginning of the year opening events at each school location. Parents may also opt to sign up for<br />
a printed copy of the monthly menu, sent home with their child. This form will be included with<br />
the free and reduced lunch application packet in August, <strong>2012</strong>.<br />
The Food Service Department will continue to make healthy and current changes to the school<br />
menus that promote better nutrition. We are committed to making the school cafeterias a place<br />
for students to learn and choose healthy foods that encourage life-long wellness behavior.<br />
