SERVANT LEADERSHIP
IS KEY
danielle white
ENVP
Independent Consultant, Executive National Vice President
Danielle White Nation; Charleston, SC
To be completely honest, until I started to think about qualifying for Nation, my
Arbonne adventure had been all about me. I am a type A personality, so my
Arbonne business was about my goals, drive and ambition. Not that I was not
helping people, but my leadership style was about me, and what a great leader
I was! It was definitely about me being in control, a very dangerous way to think!
Life has a funny way of teaching you that you are not in control. In November,
my team was gearing up for Nation. We were really moving and our group
volume reached record levels before Thanksgiving. Then my world came to a
halt. My mom had been taken to the hospital in an ambulance, and our family
was called in the day before Thanksgiving. As my husband, Michael, and I
drove to the hospital, I realized that nothing else mattered. I had lost myself in
my business and had forgotten to live in each moment fully. My mother had
tried to warn me that my two small girls were growing up fast and I needed to
be paying attention. I did not listen. I had a mission and a goal. I had tunnel
vision. I had gotten lost in putting in maximum effort, in a minimum timeframe.
After four years of battling leukemia and a bone marrow transplant, my beautiful
mother left us for a much better place. She held off until the day after
Thanksgiving. That was her style. She was not going to have us crying every
Thanksgiving. She would want it to be a celebration, like the ones she used to
prepare for us. She was 57years old.
My mother was a single parent and would have been an amazing business builder
had this opportunity found her at the right time. I am saddened most by the fact
she was not able to build this business with me, but I know I have made her proud.
Obviously, I stepped away from my business for a while. My team was gracious
and let me grieve. My entire belief system had been shaken and I truly began to
doubt whether I would ever be a National Vice President, and whether I
deserved to be. At the end of January 2006, I was in Greenville, South Carolina,
at a Manager’s retreat with ENVP Beth Sparks (who had recently lost her father)
and talking about my loss of focus and confidence in myself and in my business.
Beth simply said, “This is not about you.” That smacked me right between the
eyes! The term “servant leader” had sounded great and I thought I was one, but
I had no clue what servant leadership was. I only knew that this was another
major moment of personal growth for me.
My entire Arbonne journey has been about personal growth. Just when I think
I have it all figured out, something else humbles me and reminds me I still have
such a long way to go. I made servant leadership my focus and began read-
Area Manager’s Christmas Luncheon, 2005.
Nation meeting in Charleston, South Carolina.
ing everything I could get my hands on. I never doubted my ability to
lead, just my motivation. I love being a leader and the recognition and
praise it brings. I love being the first to introduce Arbonne in my area
and helping to build a business from scratch. Still, this mission is so much
bigger than me, and I am constantly humbled and amazed by the
growth of my team and the people I have come in contact with.
That weekend in Greenville was eye opening for me. We ended the
retreat with a very emotional session of sharing. I had no idea the impact
that Arbonne was having on the lives of my team. I was again humbled
and honored to have had anything to do with their transformations. I
returned home from the retreat focused on giving back to my team and
before the month ended (two days later), my team had given back to me
again. We went into qualification for Nation and finished the following
month. March 1 st was my 18-month anniversary of beginning my business
and I had promoted to National Vice President. More importantly,
that month we had six new Regions and one Nation in-qualification. It
was amazing!
This business has taught me more about myself than any previous experience
in my life. I have grown more over the past year-and-a-half than
I ever expected. This business was originally about the potential for
financial freedom for my family. I had no idea it was going to teach me
some of life’s greatest lessons. Building your Arbonne business is not
about the destination but about your journey! If you are not enjoying the
journey, and not living in the moment, then you are not making the most
of your journey. For me, this business is about being the best me I can
be. Serve your team, and you will find success and true happiness.
Make it happen!
I could not have gotten where I am today without the wonderful support
and encouragement of my amazing upline leaders. To my sponsor and
childhood friend, ERVP Heidi Putnam: Thank you for knowing me better
success strategy:
than I know myself. You knew this opportunity was right for me. I am so
glad you decided to give it a second glance yourself. You deserve this!
I am so glad to be sharing this with you. I love you like a sister. To ENVP
Savannah Meeks: You are my living example of a servant leader. I cannot
thank you enough for all of your wisdom, time and friendship. I love
that I have found a friend in you. To ENVPs Beth Sparks, Ann
Wandishin, Gina Ballew and Cecilia Stoll: The leadership and vision
you pass down is priceless. I am so honored to be in your downline.
To President Rita Davenport, Chairman & CEO Bob Henry and the
Executive Team: Thank you for all that you do to put us first.
To the Arbonne VP Support Team: You guys rock! I love having you there
to help us all.
I want to acknowledge the efforts of my awesome team.
To NVP Whitney Koval: There are not enough words to thank you for all
that you have given me. You motivate, inspire and amaze me. I am so
honored you chose to do this with me. The journey has just begun and
we have so many years of fun ahead! I extend my congratulations to you
and your team, including, RVP Caroline Bailey, RVP Angie Medlock,
RVP Sandy Gillespie (your mom … I love that you and your mom are in
this together), RVPs-in-qualification Lydia King and Penny Baker and all
the awesome Area Managers, District Managers and Consultants on
your exploding team!
To ERVP Karen Tawes: You were my first real business builder. Thank
you for staying the course. It is so much fun doing this business with your
best friend. I am so proud of you and your growing business.
continued ...
Serve your team and
you will find success
“and true happiness.”
To RVP Katie Finley: Your story is still my favorite one. The first time I
used the Arbonne=REsults TM Presentation, you wanted to do the business
with me. You are so feisty and I love it! You make this business so
much fun.
To RVP Paige Merrill: I knew you would be awesome at this business
way before you did! And I was right. I love that this business has reconnected
us. And I love that you are building this with your sister and your
mom! This is such a wonderful opportunity.
To RVP Ellen Stebbins: I know what this business means for you and your
family. I am so humbled to be involved in bringing this gift to you. You
are an amazing leader and I am so proud of you!
Julianne Vadas and Melody Bundschuh: You all are next! Your white
about, you bring about!”
To all the many District Managers on our team: You are the heart of the
business. Launching Districts is what it is all about! Follow the system and
you will get there, too. I am especially honored to have my sister-in-law,
DM Karen Tucker, building this business with me.
Arbonne journeys: Stick with it! Take the word “quit” out of your vocabulary
and you will succeed. This is your journey, embrace it!
Danielle’s Nation at Arbonne’s “Annual Test Drive a Mercedes” Day 2006
To my husband, Michael: You have given me everything I have ever needed
and taken care of my every need since I met you. Now, I can give
back to you. Your love, support and business savvy have all been invaluable
and catapulted my business to its current level. I would not be here
with out you, nor would I want to! I love you, always and forever!
To my girls, Caroline and Hayden: You are my Why for wanting to succeed
with my Arbonne business. You both are so beautiful and you make
my life complete. I promise to make sure to give you what you deserve
every day. Your grandma lived for both of you and loved you more than
life itself. I love you both with all of my heart! To our third “surprise” baby
girl, Mary Patricia: You are a gift from your namesake, my mom. You are
due to arrive two days before her birthday on August 29 th , and were conceived
a week after her death. I cannot wait to meet you. Your grandma
will always be a guardian angel watching over you.
To my dad: You are such a great man. You are my number one product user
and fan. I love you! I am so grateful for all of my family’s love and support.
Last but not least, I want to thank God for the gift of each day and all the
blessings found in them. I pray for the focus to use these gifts wisely!
If you are just beginning your business or somewhere along the way, just
slow down and enjoy the moment. Everything in this business, in life, is
designed to teach you a great lesson if you care to open it. Enjoy the journey,
live in the moment and make the most of your life and your business
will come!
