Das Oktoberfest war wieder ein ausserordentlicher Erfolg. Ich

möchte allen freiwilligen Helfern und den Vorstandsmitgliedern

meinen persönlichen Dank aussprechen für ihren unermütlichen

Einsatz.

Edelweisshalle. Alle Mitglieder sind herzlich eingeladen. Für Mitglieder sind die

Kosten vom Klub subventioniert. Mitglieder $10.00, Partner-Nichtmitglied:

Kostenbeitrag $30.00.

Die Silvesterfeier dieses Jahr findet am Montag 31. Dezember statt.

David Zeller

Was soll uns das Christkindlein bringen?

Das beste von allen Dingen!

Doch was mag es sein?

Ist’s Atlas und Seide und Gold und Geschmeide

Und Edelgestein?

Lasst den Christbaum uns fragen,

Der soll es uns sagen;

Adolf Kolping

Our traditional Oktoberfest over the past 5 weekends has been an outstanding

success. I would like to thank all committee members and voluntary helpers for

their untiring work. We would like to thank them for a job well done. All have

worked very well together and supported each other in times of need. Without

the Bavarian dancers, the Glockenspiel, and the shooting gallery, it would not be

an original Oktoberfest. To both groups and their supporting members many

thanks. Only with events like this are we able to maintain our club. With buildings

and machinery aging, there will be ongoing maintenance and the committee

will endeavour to keep our club in good condition at all times.

Christmas will be here soon. You are all invited to attend our club’s Christmas

function, held on Saturday 22 nd December. Tickets are available at the office

and from Mae. There will be supper & coffee and Christmas Stollen included.

Members $10.00, Guests $30.00.

New Year’s Eve function will be held on Monday, 31 st December.

Please order and pick up your tickets early as the club office closes on Friday,

21 st December at 3pm.

On behalf of the Committee, I wish all the members a happy Christmas and all

the best and good health in the New Year.

David Zeller

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, Just like the ones I used to

know, where the tree tops glisten, and the children listen, to

hear sleigh bells in the snow.

Ingredients—Christmas Stollen

Serves: 15

1 sachet (7g) dried yeast

175ml warm milk (45 C)

1 large egg

90g caster sugar

1 ½ teaspoons salt

90g unsalted butter, softened

375g bread flour or plain flour

60g currants

60g sultanas

60g red glace cherries, quartered

185g diced mixed citrus peel

220g marzipan

1 heaped teaspoon icing sugar

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

toasted slivered almonds for sprinkling on top

Preparation method

Prep: 2 hours |Cook: 40 minutes

1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.

2. In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture with the egg, caster sugar, salt, butter and

3/4 of the flour; beat well. Add the remaining flour, a little at a time, stirring well after

each addition.

3. When the dough has begun to pull together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, and

knead in the currants, sultanas, dried cherries and mixed peel. Continue kneading until

smooth, about 8 minutes.

4. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl, and turn to coat with oil. Cover with

a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour.

5. Lightly grease a baking tray. Deflate the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.

Roll the marzipan into a rope and place it in the centre of the dough. Fold the

dough over to cover it; pinch the seams together to seal.

6. Place the loaf, seam side down, on the prepared baking tray. Cover with a clean, damp

tea-towel and let rise until doubled in volume, about 40 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat

oven to 180 degrees C.

7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 150 degrees C and

bake for a further 30 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown.

8. Allow loaf to cool on a wire cooling rack. Dust the cooled loaf with icing sugar, sprinkle

with cinnamon and finish with the toasted slivered almonds.

SENIORENBERICHT

Es geht dem Ende des Jahres zu.

Das Weihnachtsfest steht vor der Tür.

Um diese Zeit denken wir gerne an

unsere Kindheit zurück. Wie freuten

wir uns auf das Christkind und auf

unsere bescheidenen Geschenke.

Jetzt ist es ein wenig anders

geworden. Was sollen wir wohl

unseren Enkelkindern schenken?

Am Mittwoch den 19. Dezember ist

unsere Weihnachtsfeier. Bitte seid um

11.30 da, damit wir um 12.00

anfangen können. So wünsche ich

allen eine Frohe Weihnacht und ein

glückliches Neues Jahr.

Nach der Weihnachtsfeier sind Ferien.

Wir fangen am Mittwoch, den

23. Januar 2013 wieder an. Ich hoffe,

dass alle wieder mitmachen.

Golden Wedding Anniversary

Dieter and Sieglinde Dücke

Congratulations to Dieter and Sieglinde on reaching 50 years of marriage.

Dieter migrated to Australia in 1960 and was soon followed by Sieglinde. They were married

on the 10th of November 1962 and started their family. They returned to Germany

but soon realised that the life in Australia had more to offer and returned for good in

1972.

Dieter and Sieglinde have been active members of the Rhein-Donau Club for over 40

years and were founding members of the Edelweiss Dance Group. Both have been active

in the club’s committee with Dieter as President and Sieglinde as Trustee.

We wish them both a long and happy life together.

Love Susan & Brian, Werner & Julia and granddaughters Rebecca, Monica, Elizabeth &

Alexandra.

EDELWEISS DANCE GROUP

HEIMAT CHOIR

Hi Everyone,

Well, the Oktoberfest is over and we are

recovering from a very busy period.

However, the work is not over. We now

must prepare for the “Volkstanzfest” in

Sydney next Easter. As they say, “No

rest for the wicked”.

I would like to wish our honorary member

Regina Kais, a speedy recovery and

hope that she will be home from hospital

soon.

And on another, happier note, our honorary

members Dieter and Sieglinde

have just celebrated their 50 th wedding

anniversary. I know,” impossible” you

say - this eternally youthful couple cannot

have been married for so long. Just

goes to show that dancing keeps you

young! On behalf of the Dance Group,

we wish you much love and best wishes

on this very momentous occasion.

Our lovely girls from Echo der Berg will

be tinkling the bells at the club’s Christmas

party. May you be blessed over

this festive season with the company of

your loved ones.

We had to say farewell to our pianist

Dorothea, and we shall miss her very

much. Being a wonderful pianist she

has, at present, too many commitments

and sadly has to leave us. She

not only played the piano for us, but

also conducted the Choir for several

years .

The Heimat Choir wishes Dorothea

every success in all her undertakings

and future projects.

In the interval we have a new pianist,

Annika, who is happy to assist us in

our rehearsals.

Our practise is now in preparation for

Christmas and we are looking forward

to a well earned rest after that. We

shall resume our rehearsals on the

5 th February 2013

To all our Choir members, I wish you

all a Happy Christmas Season, and a

speedy recovery to all who are not

well.

Marlene Porzig.

Merry Christmas to all!

CHESS GROUP

EAGLE EYE AIR RIFLE GROUP

Now and then an e-mail gets "Lost in the

Clouds", as it happened to my Sept./Oct.

report. I'm including a copy of this lost report:

Chess group Report Oct.-Nov.

The Clubs Chess Championship was won

by Sanjay Kumar, second was Bert Engel

and third Ewald Froend. Due congratulations

to the three players. We celebrated

with dinner and prize presentation on the

19th of September. A little late, I know and

was entirely because of my long absence.

The next competition a Chess Handicap

Tournament was started on the 26th of

September and will keep us busy for a

while.

On a sad note, I have to report that our

long time chess player Kurt Rebane passed

away suddenly. Kurt will be sadly missed

by this group.

We concluded our handicap tournament on

the 7th of November. Equal first are Horst

Ilmenstein and Klaas Zylstra with Sanjay

Kumar, George Meyer and Josh Crane

equal third. Congratulations to all participants.

A play-off was not possible since

some players had already booked their

holidays. We will celebrate or have already

done so, with Dinner on Wednesday the

21st of November.

Hello Shooters,

The Oktoberfest is behind us again for

another year. I like to thank everyone

who worked very hard during these 5

weekends.

During the Month of November we had

2 Memorial Trophy Shoots Sabrina

Westerfeld Trophy was won by David

and the Horst Huenger trophy was won

by Mae. Congratulation to both of you.

Also Mae shot her first 100 out of 100

congratulation!

We have come to the end of another

year. We will break up on the 7th of

December 2012 until Friday the 18th of

January 2013.

Mandolin Orchestra Group Report

Hot after our end of year concert yesterday,

WAMO is now looking forward to a

more relaxed finish to their very busy

year.

It was pleasing to see one of the groups

from the Club, the Yoga group, attend our

Spring Concert. They were able to sit on

their regular table and although we set the

Edelweiss Hall up a little differently, they

could hear all the nuances from the delicate

sounds of the mandolins.

There was a warm atmosphere for our

Spring concert which featured music from

the Baroque to the 20th century. The final

concerto for Oboe and Orchestra brought

the concert to a wonderful conclusion.

There was a small ceremonial handing

over of the baton to WAMO’s new conductor

Ana Milas who then took the orchestra

through a short and lively Spanish

dance. With some of the orchestra members

sitting up on the stage, the more attractive

visual presentation added to the

enjoyment of the afternoon

program.

There will be a few small performances

by members from within the

orchestra between now and the end

of year. A ten piece group will be

performing live on stage for a ballet

performance at the Octagon Theatre

in December. A trio of players will be

providing dinner music at the Club

on Friday December 7 th .

And we will all be together on

Wednesday 12 th December for our

Annual wind-up with entertainment

coming from our Youth Orchestra

members.

In the next newsletter we will present

our plans for 2013 which looks

like being another active and rewarding

year for all concerned.

Robert Schulz

Group Leader.

TABLE TENNIS GROUP

Dear Members,

We have had a good attendance the last

number of weeks.

We are now hoping that our quiz night

on the 16th November will be well

attended and enjoyed by all who take

part.

We are having a dinner for our members

at the club on the 30th November.

Closing date for the members will be on

the 18th December with a supper.

The Group will re-commence next year

on the 27th January 2012.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a

Happy New Year.

Best wishes to all!

Joyce Williams

Dear Friends,
