The New Generation in Speed Detection
MESTA SMART is a range of road safety solutions based on
the localization of the same vehicle in space and time at
different points along its route, allowing in particular the
detection of average speed.
The MESTA SMART average speed control solution uses two
networked MESTA 5000 SMART units to detect any vehicle
traveling over distances ranging from 150 meters (500ft.) to
dozens of kilometers, at speeds of up to 250 km/h (155 mph).
Ensuring Road Safety
Measuring the average speed of vehicles has a lasting impact
on drivers’ behavior, helps reduce the number of road accidents,
improves traffic flow management and helps cut down on
greenhouse gas emissions.
Flexibility, Accuracy and Reliability
• Flexibility and facilitation: Due to its modular architecture,
the MESTA 5000 SMART system can easily be adapted to any
type of deployment site such as freeways, roads, tunnels,
bridges, work zones, etc. and to existing structures. In
addition, to facilitate installation operations, the modules
are provided already configured with factory settings.
They also have a self-test function and, in case of failure, repairs
are made by standard module replacement without the need
for recalibration. These features simplify on-site support and
make it easier to manage.
• Multi-lane management: The solution can monitor all types of
vehicles, approaching or receding, on up to four traffic lanes
simultaneously.
• Effective and accurate detection: Based on non-intrusive
technology, the MESTA 5000 SMART offers a detection rate close to
100%, for all types of vehicles, with a spatial localization error of
less than 50 cm and a time-stamp precision of better than 5ms.
• Accurate identification: With its unique combination of two image
acquisition devices (for number plate and context), number plate
recognition algorithms, and Morpho’s high performance image
signature algorithms, the MESTA 5000 SMART ensures accurate
vehicle recognition and reliable matching.
• Certified performance levels: The MESTA 5000 SMART operates
24h/24, manages up to 2,400 vehicles per lane per hour with
an accurate average speed measurement (less than 3% error),
and this for any vehicle traveling at up to 250 km/h along a
distance ranging from 150 m to several dozens of kilometers.
The MESTA 5000 SMART has received the LNE certification
(the French national test laboratory).
• Data integrity: Linked to a Processing Center via a secure
network - wired (ADSL, fiber optic), or wireless (GSM, 3G, 3G+) -,
the MESTA 5000 SMART encrypts the collected data and adds an
electronic signature prior to its transmission.
• Transmission without constraints: The MESTA 5000 SMART
optimizes the volume of data transmitted over the network and
imposes no real time constraints, when transmitting between
the entry and exit points of the controlled route.
