SCD122U Software Manual 2. SCD122U Printer Driver The SCD122U printer driver makes it possible to use print commands from within your Windows applications to send data to the customer display. 2.1 Installing and Setting Up the Printer Driver The SCD122U printer driver runs on Windows 2000 (SP3 and above), XP, and 32-bit Vista operating systems. Before installing this driver, you must first install the SCD122U's USB driver and Virtual Serial Port Converter, as explained in Chapter 1. To install the printer driver, proceed as follows. 1 Connect the SCD122U to a USB port on the computer. 2 Open the Device Manager. (If using Windows 2000 and XP: Go to the Start menu, open the Control Panel, select System, open the Hardware tab, and click [Device Manager]. If using Vista: Go to the Start menu, select Settings → Control Panel, and click [Device Manager].) Under the Serial Ports (COM & LPT) heading, you will find an entry that says SMJ Line Display Device SCD122U(COM*), where * is the port number. Make a note of this port number. Important: Be sure that the SCD122U is connected to the computer. If it is not connected, the SCD122U virtual serial port will not appear in the Device Manager. Click [Next]. 7 The wizard asks whether you wish to set up a local printer or a network printer. Select Local printer attached to this computer, uncheck Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer, and click [Next]. 8 The wizard now asks you to select a printer port. Select Use the following port, and then select the port that you noted down at Step 2 above. Important: During the time that you are using the selected virtual serial port as the SCD122U printer port, the only possible way to output to the customer display will be by means of the printer driver. — 11 —
