SCD122U Software Manual 3.3 Sample OPOS Program If you run a custom install of the SCD122U Windows driver and opt to install the sample OPOS program, the program’s VB source code will be available in the following folder. Program Files\Star Micronics\OPOS LineDisplay Register\Sample You can use this sample program to test OPOS operation. To run the program, proceed as follows. ■ On Windows 2000 (SP3 or higher) or XP: From the Start menu, select All Programs → StarMicronics → SCD122U → SDK for OPOS. ■ On Windows Vista: From the Start menu, select All Programs → StarMicronics → SCD122U, right-click SDK for OPOS, and select Run as administrator from the drop-down menu. The sample program window appears, as shown below. You can now test OPOS operations as described below. ✸ Establish Session 1 Device Name: Select the name of a device that has been set to a port. 2 [Open]: Opens the device. If the attempt to open the device fails: It is possible that the OPOS driver has not been set correctly, or that the SCD122U is not correctly connected to the PC. 3 [Claim]: Requests exclusive access. ✸ Display Message 4 [DeviceEnabled(True)]: If the claim attempt fails: The COM port number may be incorrect. Enables the device. 5 [DisplayText]: Displays the specified text (from the Text box) on the display. The displayed text starts at the row and column set in the Row and Col boxes. 6 [DeviceEnabled(False)]: ✸ Terminate Session Stops the display. 7 [Release]: Releases the claim on the device. 8 [Colse]: Closes the session. Important: 1. When you install the sample program, the “SCD122U” device name is automatically added, overwriting any previous entry of the same name. After installing, open the OPOS Line Display Register dialog and recheck the port number setting. 2. For details about using OPOS, refer to the official documentation from the OPOS Committee. — 28 —

SCD122U Software Manual 4. Check Tool The check tool runs on Windows 2000, XP, and 32-bit Vista. The tool allows you to use ASCII codes to send characters to display. It also lets you create user-defined characters and assign ASCII codes to them. If you wish to use this tool, run a custom install when installing the SCD122U Windows driver, and opt to install this tool. To open the check tool, proceed as follows. ■ On Windows 2000 (SP3 or higher) or XP: From the Start menu, select All Programs → StarMicronics → SCD122U → Utility → Check Tool. ■ On Windows Vista: From the Start menu, select All Programs → StarMicronics → SCD122U → Utility, right-click Check Tool, and select Run as administrator from the drop-down menu. The following dialog appears ✸ Settings tab • Interface In the COMM Port box, select the port to which the customer display is connected. Then click [Test Connection]. If the display is correctly connected, the following message box appears. • Fully fill out the display Under Text Type, select the way text will be entered. • ASCII Code (decimal number) • Character (alphanumeric character) In the Text field, enter the value you wish to display. Then click [Send Text]. The character will be sent repeatedly until so that it fills the display area. — 29 —
