District One Report Reni

District One Report Reni Lucido Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Japan, & Western Canada Happy New Year from District 1! I must say that I had some concerns about the timing and location of this year’s Convention, but I thought the ARBA and host clubs did a great job. We had to enter our rabbits a day early and check them out a day after and they made it work out easily. Transportation was not a problem and the weather worked out perfectly. It was great being downtown visiting the shops and, of course, seeing the Mall of America. I didn’t have much success with my rabbits, but I certainly saw some very nice ones. In fact, I bought a lovely little buck and I’m expecting some big things from him. I’m sorry that I did not get a chance to meet and talk with many of you; it seemed that the time just flew by. I participated again in the Royalty competition and the events seemed to have more of a conflict with the affairs of the club than in the year’s past. But then again, this has been the story of my life in the last couple of years. I belong to two 4H clubs and hold offices in both, and I belong to two local ARBA clubs, where I am the leader of the youth in both. I attend many area shows where I show my rabbits, help the younger kids, and work as a registrar. And, this is when I am not working as a show secretary! It’s been tough balancing all this and my high school studies. ( I have been successful in bringing bunnies to ours and other local area FFA clubs!) When I agreed to take on the responsibilities of the Director of District 1, I had big ambitions of reporting on the District’s activities, creating more enthusiasm in the group, growing the membership and getting more involved in the club. Instead, I found that it was difficult just getting the reports in before the deadline. The American Dwarf Hotot Rabbit Club has a great group of members and District 1 needs to have a Director that will better achieve the above goals. With that said, I am resigning as Director of District 1. I plan to continue on with the club. I would like to thank Tonna for her kind words of encouragement. In the Royalty competition I got District winner in Management and National Runner-Up in the same, Second Place for National ID Team and Runner-up for Queen (for the 3 rd time). This is my last year of eligibility in Royalty. It’s a great program that rounded out my rabbit knowledge and experience. I strongly recommend this program if you have kids working in the rabbit hobby. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everybody! Winter 2011 Dwarf Hotot News Page 11

District Two Report Jayme Phillips Arizona, California, Hawaii, NEVADA!!!, Utah, & Mexico No Report Received District Three Report Patty Percy Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, NEBRASKA!!! & Wisconsin I recently took a trip to the MO State Convention Show on Dec. 4 & 5 and had a great time. I had hoped that going that far south would have made a difference in the temperature being warmer at the beginning of December, but it was just as cold there as back home. I made some new friends and spent time with old friends. The rabbits I took along did very well and I will have to consider if I want to try to go back next year. As the winter begins to set in, I am still trying to get the does bred that I brought back from Nationals! They have been very uncooperative. That is why I always tell new breeders when they are interested in getting into the breed, “Raising dwarf hotots can be quite a challenge and it takes a lot of patience.” I will never sell anyone a good breeding age doe unless I know they are serious. The article I’ve submitted may help give you some pointers when it comes to breeding during the long cold winter. Good Luck! Winter 2011 Dwarf Hotot News Page 12
