2010-2011 Winter Issue - the American Dwarf Hotot Rabbit Club

Editor’s Thoughts…

Editor’s Thoughts… Welcome to the newly revised edition of Dwarf Hotot News! I have tried my best to maneuver my Microsoft programs in order to update our newsletter with the suggestions made by the membership at the 2010 ARBA Convention. Changes include adding the mailing addresses for our Board and Directors on the opening pages, updated advertising rates, important date reminders, a page of promotional items and merchandise, and by adding an updated membership application for you to copy and pass out to potential members! Oh, and of course, I’ve decided Nebraska and Nevada can officially rejoin the lower 48 and become states again The theme of this edition is winter and its impact on our hobby. It now takes me an extra 30 minutes to crack crocks in the morning, and I must now line my cages with hay for insulation in the evening. For all of you who have temperature controlled barns or water heated systems, I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say the rest of us envy you. Greatly. Cold temperatures also discourage our mommas from doing their duty—if kits are born, they have a high risk of being pink popsicles within minutes. How do we cope with this dilemma? How do we get those does in the mood for motherhood in the first place? Suggestions are found within this newsletter. The next discussion topic for us to consider is highlighting our favorite Hotot of all time. I believe that we all have that one rabbit who has impacted our herd and our lives for the better, so why not show him or her off to the rest of the Dwarf Hotot world? It is my hope that I get a picture and a brief commentary from at least three members from each District! Will your pride and joy be featured? Just send me some info—name, lineage, age, sex, why this Hotot is awesome, etc. and a cute snapshot. I can’t wait to see some Dwarf Hotot greatness! On a closing note, I encourage members to consider receiving the emailed version of Dwarf Hotot News. I really like including as much as possible in the newsletter, but cramming tiny print in reports is not my ideal. The money going to the newsletter budget could fund other ADHRC projects, (like scholarships!). Please help me assist the club by signing up for an electronic newsletter. Just contact Tonna Thomas, she’ll be happy to help! Winter 2011 Dwarf Hotot News Page 1

President’s Report John Mingus Greetings – Well if you are reading this, you have survived the holiday season and are now enjoying a brand new year – 2011!! Wow, to say time flies would be an understatement. I would like to personally wish each of you a prosperous and happy 2011 – may you, your friends, family, and barn be filled with joy and prosperity throughout the upcoming year! The 2010 ARBA Convention in Minneapolis is now but a faint memory for everyone who attended. I must say, this was one of those conventions which I will always remember. I thoroughly enjoyed the city, the weather, and the facilities that Minneapolis had to offer. And let’s be realistic, who would have ever thought that it would be sunny and 70° in November in Minneapolis!! I would like to personally thank all of the volunteers who helped make this show a success. Our ADHRC Minneapolis Show Committee did a fantastic job and we had an excellent turnout in volunteers to help for the day of show activities. In the interest of space, I won’t list all who volunteered, but know that without your extraordinary efforts the memories of Minneapolis, which were created through your hard work and volunteer efforts, are greatly appreciated. THANK YOU for volunteering, executing a flawless show, and for allowing everyone who attended to have a show experience filled with great memories. Please take a moment to review the published meeting minutes of both the board meeting and the general membership meeting which are contained within this publication. There is a significant amount of valuable data which you can gain from this information regarding the health of our organization, topics of interest, and efforts both within the board and outside of the board to help make the ADHRC all that it can be. One of the key differentiators which was easily recognizable in Minneapolis was the enthusiasm of the membership to step forward when asked to participate in new opportunities. The general membership meeting was full of ideas, suggestions, and general dialogue for the betterment of the ADHRC organization. Each time a volunteer opportunity was raised, the Winter 2011 Dwarf Hotot News Page 2
