ADHRC had members

ADHRC had members stepping forward to assist in the effort. As we all know, it is extremely easy to sit on the sidelines, throw stones, and cast both doubt and innuendo, but the real courage is demonstrated when volunteers step forward and volunteer to help drive positive change. To that end, here are just a few of the efforts which are now underway thanks to the volunteer efforts demonstrated in Minneapolis. 1. A new committee is working on delivering a new ADHRC guidebook which includes both new content and a new format! 2. Volunteers quickly stepped forward and filled our 2011 Indianapolis Convention Committee! 3. New leadership in our Domestic Rabbit article author! 4. Continuing enhancements to the DH News thanks to our (recently) new Editor and ideas gathered while in Minneapolis! 5. Exploration of new avenues to reach the membership with members stepping forward to help the ADHRC to explore new online hosted forums! 6. Suggestions and ideas for enhancements to our current ADHRC website! 7. And of course, voting to allow Nebraska to once again be a part of the ADHRC organization! Before I leave convention discussion, I suppose it would be appropriate to mention the great turnout and quality of animals which were on display at the convention center. Our overall depth of quality continues to improve and competition was deep in each of the classes in both open and youth. Congratulations to Bill Whaley for his HUGE WIN in both Best of Breed and Best Opposite Sex honors in open! Congratulations to Caroline Waskow for her Best of Breed and to Jordon Wolff for his Best Opposite Sex honors in the youth show! Well Done! Thanks to the creative genius of Bob Bergene – the ADHRC had a financial boost due to Bob’s quick thinking regarding the challenges of “raffles” in Minneapolis. Bob secured a beautiful trio of Dwarf Hotots and a stacking cage combo which the ADHRC was able to silent auction off and avoid all of the raffle laws of Minnesota! Interest in both was intense, by existing members and prospective new members to our organization which was great to witness. In the end, the club was able to meet our expenses and add to our bottom line thanks to Bob’s creativity! Moving on to more difficult topics, once the fun at convention was over, the board of the ADHRC was forced to get back to work of general club business, ironically on a topic which was discussed in the general membership meeting in Minneapolis. One of the items which the board had to address was expired members’ sweepstakes, more specifically how to proceed in the event a membership expires. In the end, the ARBA office was able to provide support and guidance on this issue. In this edition of the DH News, our Secretary details the current ADHRC process in her article so that all members are familiar with the process of checks and balances which are in place to prevent a negative impact to our members and their sweepstakes points. Are you ready for the upcoming show season? Do you have your plans made for our National Specialty show this year? Are you going to help us reach a goal of 300 Dwarf Hotots in Indianapolis? As I stated when I began this article, time flies and will get away from you in a heartbeat. Make those reservations, breed those does, and join in the enjoyment of being a part of a dynamic organization such as ARBA and the ADHRC. Make a positive difference and do it today! In closing, thank you for once again allowing me to serve as your President. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the membership in this role. For those of you who I have not met, please reach out and introduce yourself. And if some tall geeky man approaches you to talk Dwarf Hotots, don’t call the law…..it’s just me!! Vice-President’s Report Joyce Holton Greetings! Now that the holidays are behind us, it’s time to focus on the first shows of the year. The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the week of January 8-15, 2011 in Harrisburg, PA. The rabbit show will be held January 7. Take some time to visit the largest indoor agricultural display in the country. It offers a great opportunity to showcase our hobby. With almost half-million visitors we can do a lot of promoting! While the Farm Show is for Pennsylvania residents only, the Pennsylvania State Rabbit Breeders Association’s Annual Convention is open to all and will be held on the weekend of February 5-6, 2011. Along with the regular shows, the Convention will feature more than 20 specialty shows. I invite you to come and show off your Dwarf Hotots four times in one weekend! For more information, including area hotels, a Convention catalog may be downloaded from www.pasrba.org. For the rest of my report, please see my article on Dwarf Hotot genetics! I hope it helps!
