JOIN US ON THE GREAT

JOIN US ON THE GREAT AFRICAN WELLY WALK How far could you walk in your lunch break? Ten times around the playground? Six times around the football fields? We want you to help us walk all the way to Kenya – and back! On Farm Africa’s Great African Welly Walk, we’ll add together every single mile walked by schools and other Farm Africa supporters across the UK. When it’s all totalled up we hope we’ll have collectively walked all the way to our project in Kitui, Kenya, where Willi and Elizabeth live – just the kind of project you’ll be helping by taking part in the welly walk. Families in eastern Africa urgently need your help now. So choose a date, distribute your sponsor forms, chase the spiders out of your wellies and get ready to Give Hunger the Boot! HOW TO PLAN YOUR WELLY WALK 1 Choose a day next term to hold your sponsored walk. 2 Plan your route and work out how many welly miles you'll be walking. It can be anything from a few laps of the playground during lunch break to a cross-country route during PE! 3 Notify parents and other teachers that you are helping to Give Hunger the Boot. 4 5 Give sponsor forms to the pupils so they can ask friends and family to sponsor them. Get in touch with local media to tell them about your event. 6 As the date approaches, remind your pupils to wear their wellies. 7 Once you’ve completed your fundraising, simply use the enclosed form to send your donation to us – or donate online at www.farmafrica.org/ghtb 8 9 Don’t forget to let us know how many welly miles you walked! If 50 pupils each walk a mile, your school will have walked 50 welly miles. Send us your photos and let us know how you got on! “Farm Africa’s Give Hunger the Boot appeal is a wonderful initiative. The welly walks give us a really fun way of increasing the sense of connection between our children and those in Africa. The walks will also give our children a real sense of purpose.” Jane Sculper, Head of School

www.farmafrica.org/ghtb BOOT UP YOUR COMPUTER AND DOWNLOAD OUR FREE TEACHING RESOURCES To help your school Give Hunger the Boot, you’ll find a range of useful resources on our website. Some are designed to liven up your fundraising, and others are educational resources. There are lesson plans showing your pupils how Farm Africa helps families in rural Africa to beat hunger and poverty. You could also use your welly walk to cover other aspects of learning such as geography, science, creative writing and responsible citizenship. You’ll find all these resources at www.farmafrica.org/ghtb HOW MANY WELLY MILES WILL YOU WALK? We’re walking all the way to Africa – and we can’t wait to start counting those welly miles! You can enter your total miles walked online and get your own personalised part of the route. Will your school walk from London to Canterbury? Along the Nile? Go online and find out! PUT HUNGER IN THE HEADLINES Your local newspapers would love to hear how you’re going to Give Hunger the Boot, so why not download our media pack? You’ll find it at www.farmafrica.org/ghtb and it’s got everything you need to get your local press excited about your fundraising. It includes a press release, top tips for interviews and lots of other things we hope you’ll find really helpful. It could be a great opportunity to let your community know about your school and all the good work you're doing. SHOW OFF YOUR WELLIES While your pupils are having fun and raising funds, we’d be delighted if you would take some photos (remember to ask for parents’ permission first) and email them to us. And if your pupils want to paint pictures or write poems about the day they helped Give Hunger the Boot, we’d love to see those too. Send your photos and creations to: community@farmafrica.org or post it to the address below. “It made me think about people who aren’t as lucky as us and I really hope that we raised enough money to help lots of people in Africa.” Max, aged 10 9th Floor Bastion House 140 London Wall London EC2Y 5DN T: 020 7430 0440 F: 020 7430 0460 E: info@farmafrica.org W: www.farmafrica.org Photo credits: All photos © Farm Africa Registered charity no. 326901 Food and Agricultural Research Management Ltd is a company limited by guarantee in England and Wales no. 01926828
