SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY Major Entrance Scholarships: $ is over four years and varies by scholarship in Humanities (Group A), Fine Arts (Group B) and Sciences (Group C). Selection is based on demonstrated leadership skills and abilities. Looking for students who play key roles in volunteer and unpaid positions in their school and/or community. Require that you be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Landed Immigrant to apply. Minimum 90% average required to apply for any of these scholarships. Shrum Scholarships (40) $24,000 Recognize high academic achievement and a commitment to school & community service, leadership, volunteer activity, the arts or athletics. Shad Valley Shrum Scholarships (3-5) $24,000 Same criteria as Gordon Shrum, plus must have attended the Shad Valley program with outstanding achievement and participation. Tadeusz Specht Memorial Scholarship (1) $10,000 Recognizes academic excellence, and is awarded to students pursuing studies in health-related sciences. Dean’s Scholarships SFU COMMUNITY ENTRANCE AWARD SFU SURREY ENTRANCE AWARD REMAX QUEST OF EXCELLENCE 2009 SCHOOL BURSARY PROGRAM (22) $7,000 These are awarded within each of SFU’s faculties to recognize academic achievement and potential in a particular field of study. (6) $2,000 Students must have demonstrated a commitment to school and/or community leadership, the contemporary arts or the sciences. Minimum average of 80% is required. Preference is given to students living outside the Lower Mainland. (several) $2,000 Must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or landed immigrants. Should have minimum academic average of 80%. Recognizes students who have demonstrated a commitment to their school and wider community and who have exhibited leadership. Students must also apply to one of the programs being offered at our Surrey campus. (24) $500 Encourages students in Grade 12 to enter an essay based on their interest and passion for a selected subject. THE MILLER THOMSON 2009 FOUNDATION NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME THE COLONEL DOUGLAS H. GUNTER HISTORY AWARDS (200) $1,000 Have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement, have made a positive contribution to their school through extracurricular activities and have made significant contributions of time and energy to community service programs. Will be attending a post-secondary institution in the fall to pursue a course of study within Canada leading to a degree or diploma. (5) $1,000 Each student must submit an original work using one of the following media: text, visual art, web design, audio or video production. based on this year’s theme: Battle of the Plains of Abraham. LEONARD FOUNDATION (140) $1,000 - $1,500 All applicants will be considered but preference will be given to daughters or sons of ordained clergy, licensed elementary or secondary school teachers, Canadian military personnel, graduates of a Canadian Military College, members of the Engineering Institute of Canada and members of the Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Canada. Preference is also given to those who have previously received an award from The Leonard Foundation. Those still living with their families and whose gross total annual income, including "in kind" benefits exceeds $50,000.00 are not likely to be accepted. Those applicants who have permanently resided outside of the family home for an extended period will be required to supply detailed financial information. It is recognized that some of this information is somewhat personal; however, to fulfill the requirements of the donor, it is required. If you do not wish to divulge this information, the General Committee will not be able to make a reasoned decision. SIXTH ANNUAL TALK ABOUT CANADA SCHOLARSHIP QUIZ CANWEST INTERNSHIPS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES $500 to $5,000 To be eligible, you must be either a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, not be a previous winner, must be eligible to attend a post-secondary institution by the following September, must participate in our on-line quiz, must get fifty answers right. It doesn't matter if you are in a "registered school" or not and it doesn't matter whether you are currently in school now. (5) Valued at $10,000 each Must be a Canadian citizen with an interest in, and aptitude for, a career in the broadcast industry. Must have strong English language communication skills, currently enrolled in, or have been accepted to and will be attending full-time studies at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution in the field of broadcasting or journalism. Student must have a permanent disability.
