ELDER & LEEMAUR PUBLISHERS AWARDS CAPILANO PROGRAM AWARDS (CAPP) NEW RELATIONSHIP TRUST (NRT) FIRST NATIONS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM BETTY SPALTON SCHOLARSHIP ABORIGINAL EDUCATION INCENTIVE AWARD CEREBRAL PALSY ASSOCIATION OF BC: TANABE BURSARY BCIT PRESIDENT’S ENTRANCE AWARDS BCIT Other Entrance Awards Nation and be accepted at a recognized accredited postsecondary institution. (5) Up to $10,000 This scholarship is available to current junior or high school student. Recipients of the scholarships will be determined based on quality of work submitted. Students must submit an essay no longer than 500 words on one of the topics available on the sponsor’s website (provided). (26) up to $1,500 Certain Capilano University programs give a CAPP award to (specifically geared applicants in their program. Programs offering an award are for tuition) listed on their website. Must have a minimum average of 70%. Criteria differ from program to program. (100) $5,000 Available to all BC First Nation students planning on attending an approved post-secondary institution on a full-time basis with a C+ or better GPA. Must have proof of citizenship from BC First Nation and be accepted at a recognized accredited post-secondary institution. Up to (2) $1,500 Planning to enter full or part-time studies at any BC college, university, technical or trades institute leading to a career in road building, road maintenance or heavy construction. Preference will be given to students who are female and/or (2) $1,000 for each of Canada Post’s eight regions across the country members of minority groups. Must be a First Nations, Metis or Inuit person with a treaty or membership number, a Canadian citizen, have returned to school after a prolonged absence, and have completed one full year of educational/vocational or trade skills training. This award celebrates the motivation and determination of those who have courageously conquered personal, economic or social adversity in the pursuit of learning. (10) $1,000 Must be 18 years and older, with CP, that plans to enrol in an institution of higher learning during the following year, demonstrate financial need. Up to 60 awards towards one year’s tuition, $3,000 max Up to 132 awards valued between $500 and $3,000 Academic achievement, participation and contribution to school activities, leadership and community service. Criteria vary according to award. Most awards require demonstrated leadership and participation in school activities, community involvement and volunteer activities; Personal Statement; two references; some are based entirely on academic standing. Evidence of the applicant’s disability status must be verified by a physician or other qualified health care professional and submitted with the application. Applicant should have evidence of outstanding initiative, scholastic achievement and contribution to persons with spinal cord injury. August www.canparaplegic.org SUN LIFE FINANCIAL PEER SUPPORT SCHOLARSHIP BILL KEHLER MEMORIAL AWARDS STA (SURREY TEACHERS ASSOCIATION) SCHOLARSHIP SERGIO & CARMEN LOVISON SCHOLARSHIP FATHER EMMANUELE ROSAIA SCHOLARSHIP BCPVPA SCHOLARSHIP AWARD (BC PRINCIPALS’ – VICE-PRINCIPALS’ ASSOCIATION) $500 Same as above and the applicant must be doing volunteer or peer support work as indicated in a letter of support from the organization. (4) $2,500 Must have completed Grade 12 and are pursuing postsecondary education. Awards will be distributed to students with academic interests in broadcasting or agriculture. Individuals in professional rodeo will also be able to apply for (3) $4,000 scholarships and (3) $4,000 bursaries an award to support their post-secondary studies. Must be a graduate of a public school, provide academic achievement supported by an official transcript, be involved in school and in the community in a variety of areas and be able to state how this award would facilitate their future goals. The same criteria applies to applicants for bursaries with a statement of financial need. (2) $800 Must be residents of the Lower Mainland and have a 3.0 (B) GPA or higher. Applicants are expected to have the strength of Christian character, as well as community services rendered within the candidate’s own community and school as well as be involved in athletic activities and in particular, have the ability to promote team spirit and sportsmanship. (2) $1,000 Must be residents of the Lower Mainland, be Roman Catholic and of Italian-Canadian origin and have a 3.0 (B) GPA or higher. Applicants are expected to have strong academic achievement, strength of Christian character, especially leadership and citizenship qualities, as well as community services rendered within the candidate’s own community and school and who, in their studies, have a leaning towards the humanities: language, literature, philosophy, history, psychology, fine arts, etc. This does not, however, exclude applicants whose academic focus is in the sciences. (42) $500 All applicants will be judged on academic excellence and demonstrated leadership within the school and community and must graduate from the BC public school system and will proceed to a post-secondary institution.
