KMUTT Annual Research

KMUTT Annual Research Abstracts 2005 impression that the virtual object is actually part of the real scene. The moving camera views must display the virtual object with the appropriate position and orientation for each image frame, so that the graphically rendered object appears to be part of the scene. This paper compares 2 methods of calibration to get the camera's 3-D position, orientation, and pose, which are main parameters needed for augmented reality. The first method is used to find the camera pose by solving a set of linear equations without any optimization. The second method is based on Tsai's calibration algorithm that uses non-linear optimization to find the optimal camera's intrinsic and extrinsic parameters. We calibrate the camera's parameters using a mono-view coplanar set of colored markers with known 3-D world coordinates. We use an off-the-shelf digital camera to get our input images for each experiment. Our experiments in finding the camera pose are straightforward and low-cost, while able to provide precise enough results for use in an AR application. IC-008 ESTIMATION OF CAMERA POSE FOR USE IN AUGMENTED REALITY SYSTEM Varin Chouvatut, Suthep Madarasmi The 20 th Commemorative International Technical Conference on Circuits/Systems, Computers and Communications (ITC-CSCC 2005), July 4-7, 2005, The Shilla Hotel, Jeju, Korea, p. 979 In an augmented reality (AR) system, also known as mixed reality (MR) system, 3-D virtual objects can be realistically added into a real environment to create an impression that the virtual object is actually part of the real scene. This paper presents a method based on Tsai's camera calibration method for estimating the camera pose and some of the intrinsic parameters for use in AR system. We also present a simple technique for tracking colored markers. The camera's parameters are calibrated by using a mono-view coplanar set of colored markers with known 3-D world coordinates. We use only an off-the-shelf digital camera to get our input images for every experiment without using any specific equipment to track the markers. Thus, our experiments in calibrating the camera and tracking markers are simple and of low-cost, and yet we achieve good results. IC-009 HIERARCHICAL AND HYBRID FAULT-TOLERANT SOFTWARE SYSTEM DESIGN Denvit Methanavyn, Naruemon Wattanapongsakorn International Conference on Simulation and Modeling 2005 (SIMMOD 2005), January 17- 19, 2005, The Rose Garden Aprime Resort, Nakorn Pathom, Thailand, pp. 179-186 Reliability enhancement in software system is a crucial and challenging issue. Applying efficient fault-tolerant mechanism can fulfill the system reliability requirement. This paper proposes reliability models for hierarchical and hybrid fault-tolerant software systems considering failure dependencies or related faults in software components/versions. Our system models are based on the classical Recovery Block (RB) and N-Version Programming (NVP) schemes which are the most commonly used software fault-tolerant architectures. Our software system reliability models are generalized for higher degree of fault tolerance when higher number of software versions is provided. We perform reliability evaluation and comparison of these reliability models together with the classical models of RBs and NVPs. 81 IC-010 ROW-BASED DESIGN FOR WIRING LENGTH AND CROSSTALK MINIMIZATION IN ULSI CHIP Apichat Terapasirdsin, Naruemon Wattanapongsakorn The 2005 Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications, and Information Technology International Conference (ECTI-CON 2005), May 12-13, 2005, Asia Pattaya Beach Hotel, Pattaya, Cholburi, Thailand The common ULSI system design objectives are such as improving or maximizing wiring ability, reliability and/or yield, and reducing or minimizing chip size, power consumption, crosstalk, and coupling noise. Circuit layout is the process of placing and interconnecting a set of modules as specified by a connection of multiterminal nets. These are crucial factors in designing next generation EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools. In this research paper, we consider two system design International Conference

82 objectives which are wiring length and crosstalk minimization. This paper presents a new rowbased floorplan and routing suitable for different design styles. We propose methodologies and directions for floorplan and routing design automation tools to meet the challenges ahead with Simulated Annealing (SA) approach in floorplan and routing process. This approach is one of the efficient heuristic search algorithms to effectively predict and optimize various design objectives. IC-011 FLOORPLAN DESIGN FOR WIRING LENGTH MINIMIZATION IN ULSI CHIP USING SIMULATED ANNEALING Apichat Terapasirdsin, Naruemon Wattanapongsakorn International Conference on Simulation and Modeling 2005 (SIMMOD 2005), January 17- 19, 2005, The Rose Garden Aprime Resort, Nakorn Pathom, Thailand, pp. 106-112 Floorplan and placement are very critical problems in ULSI CAD design. The common ULSI system design objectives are such as improving or maximizing wiring ability, reliability and/or yield, and reducing or minimizing chip size, power consumption, crosstalk and coupling noise. These are crucial factors in designing next generation EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools. Semiconductor scaling limits are forcing designers to look to novel circuits and design techniques to reduce design boundaries to maintain performance growth. In this research paper, we consider two system design objectives which are wiring length and crosstalk minimization. These are needed for greater modeling complexity and accuracy in EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools. We propose methodologies and directions for floorplan design automation tools to meet the challenges ahead with Simulated Annealing (SA) approach. This approach is one of the efficient heuristic search algorithms to effectively predict and optimize various design objectives. IC-012 WIRELESS LAN SYSTEM DESIGN CONSIDERING AVERAGE PATH LOSS MINIMIZATION Narongchai Ungurawanich, Naruemon Wattanapongsakorn KMUTT Annual Research Abstracts 2005 International Conference on Simulation and Modeling 2005 (SIMMOD 2005), January 17- 19, 2005, The Rose Garden Aprime Resort, Nakorn Pathom, Thailand, pp. 113-119 Path loss is an important issue in infrastructure-based wireless LAN design. In this paper, we consider infrastructure-based wireless LAN network design by minimizing average path loss in indoor environment service area. Path loss is an attenuation factor which is a major cause of network performance degradation. The design aims to minimize average path loss and serve all traffic demand in the service area with capacity and coverage restrictions and other requirements. The problem is formulated as a non-linear optimization problem. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to solve this problem for finding appropriate access points' parameters including locations, frequency channels and power levels. GA is an effective heuristic searching algorithm suitable for various types of problem solving. The GA results are captured and evaluated with a bruteforced search approach where optimum solutions can be obtained. IC-013 OPTIMAL FEEDER-SWITCHES AND POLE-MOUNTED RTUS RELOCATION ON ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM CONSIDERING LOAD PROFILE Pichit Jintagosonwit, Pichat Jintagosonwit, Naruemon Wattanapongsakorn The 18 th International Conference on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2005), June 6-9, 2005, Turin, Italy Within the last few years, distribution systems have received great attention mainly due to the restructuring and privatization processes of the power sectors that many countries including Thailand are undergoing. A distribution system is an important part of the total electricity system as it delivers electrical power to customers. Therefore reliability-worth assessment has to be accurately evaluated and inserted in the electricity tariff for compensating customers in case a power interruption occurs. This paper presents an efficient method for improving reliability on electrical distribution system by using annual load curve changing or load profile and failure rate changing data to relocate feeder-switches and pole-mounted RTUs in the main feeder. We optimize the International Conference
