KMUTT Annual Research Abstracts 2005 eliminate the reflection and the rotation problems. The enhanced teeth image is fed back to PCA process in order to rescue misclassified teeth-image. In the experiments, 25 teeth images are tested with 20-teeth database. The results revealed that of the 7% errors caused by the two problems, 5 % are correctly identified because of the proposed method. IC-035 VIDEO-BASED OBSTACLE TRACKING FOR AUTOMATIC TRAIN NAVIGATION Prasit Nangtin, Pinit Kumhom, Kosin Chamnongthai The 2005 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems (ISPACS2005), December 13-16, 2005, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. For automatic train navigation, we have to consider obstacles existing on railway and moving toward railway in order to determine control states such as sudden break, gradual break, alarm, and so on. This paper proposes a method of video-based obstacle tracking for automatic train navigation. In this method, the tolerance for safe running is firstly determined due to the train speed, the train would be suddenly stopped, gradually stopped, horned according to the location of static obstacle. In case of dynamic obstacle that is moving to train running zone, trajectory obstacle is estimated, and train control state is prior consider in order to keep train from crashing. In this paper, we employ perspective transform to obtain each zone on the image plane in advance, and detect both static and dynamic obstacles on the image plane while the train running. The experiments are performed on video, the results reveal that by the proposed method, all zones are dynamically calculated due to the train speed, and both dynamic and static obstacles are correctly detected. IC-036 A METHOD OF VISION-BASED TONSILLITIS DETECTION Pranithan Phensadsaeng, Pinit Kumhom, Kosin Chamnongthai The 6 th International Conference on Intelligent Technologies (InTech '05), December 14-16, 2005, Phuket, Thailand. Since Tonsillitis is a disease that should 89 be periodically checked at home, we need mobile automatic system for Tonsillitis detection. This paper proposes a vision-based method for Tonsillitis detection. In this method, we employ tonsil color, uvula size, and tonsil size as features. The differences of those features are calculated by comparing the images under detection with their respective reference images of normal tonsil. Then, the differences are fed to a Fuzzy model in order to determine Tonsillitis as early-state diagnosis. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, the experiments with Tonsillitis images are performed. The results reveal about 82 % accuracy for Tonsillitis detection. IC-037 AUTOMATIC HOTSPOT-BOUNDARY DETERMINATION FOR VIDEO HOTSPOT RETRIEVAL Sirimavadee Srinate, Pinit Kumhom, Kosin Chamnongthai The 20 th Commemorative International Technical Conference on Circuits/Systems, Computers and Communications (ITC-CSCC 2005), July 4-7, 2005, The Shilla Hotel, Jeju, Korea, pp. 1613-1614 In video hotspot retrieval, it is needed to automatically determine boundaries of hotspot in any shape without expert. In this paper, we propose an automatic method of hotspot boundary determination for video hotspot retrieval. In this method, we consider movement region among video frames for moving information, and region of interest in each frame for still foreground as hotspot boundary candidates. The movement is obtained by subtraction between adjacent frames, and region-of-interest is determined by entropy as much information boundaries. The videohotspot candidates are considered to rank according to information significance. To evaluate the performance of proposed method, the experiments have been performed with some video samples. The results show hotspot boundaries are determined as similar as expert. 90 Computers and Communications (ITC-CSCC 2005), July 4-7, 2005, The Shilla Hotel, Jeju, Korea, p. 1173 This paper proposes a new approach for durian maturity evaluation by using X-ray. We are considerated its physical property such air cavity region. This is created the image analysis module to automatically measurement that region within the X-ray images. In this method appropriate threshold value is determined in order to mapping the original X-ray image into color image by pseudo color scheme. Then edges of durian pulp and peel are then detected, and the air cavity is extracted by edge enhancement algorithms. To analyze the X-ray images of durian sample, we were applied the basic element of image analysis to be done these tasks. These results can be applied for maturity automatic inspection of durian. The experiments with 10 durian samples are performed and the results reveal the performance of the proposed method. IC-039 A METHOD OF GLOVE TRACKING FOR AMATEUR BOXING REFEREEING Norrarat Wattanamongkhol, Pinit Kumhom, Kosin Chamnongthai International Symposium on Communications and Information Technologies (ISCIT2005), October 12-15, 2005, Fragrant Hill Hotel, Beijing, China, pp. 5-8 Amateur boxing is one of the most exciting and interesting sports. Since referee of amateur boxing detects and counts number of punches that hit the opponents as scores for refereeing, an automatic glove tracking and punch detecting functions can help the judgment system because a machine has no bias. In this paper, we propose the method of glove tracking for amateur boxing refereeing. In this method, color-based segmentation is used to determine white region of glove in the first couple of frames and the glove in the next frames is tracked by opening window according to the movement vector of previous frames. To evaluate performance of proposed method, the experiments with videos of amateur boxer are performed. The results showed a glove can be tracked accurately. IC-040 NEURAL NETWORK HANDOFF IN SHADOW-RAYLEIGH FADING KMUTT Annual Research Abstracts 2005 Raungrong Suleesathira, Sunisa Kunarak 2005 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS 2005), May 23-26, 2005, Kobe, Japan, pp. 5146-5149 A handoff algorithm in a cellular system under shadow-Rayleigh fading propagation is presented. The algorithm applies the timing advance for mobile positioning. The inputs of the proposed radial-basis function network consist of the mobile direction obtained by the MUSIC method on an array antenna, the received signal strengths (RSSs) of the mobile from the serving cell and from nearby cells and traffic intensities. Consequently, we obtain a significantly improved performance in comparison to the hysteresis rule. The evaluations are done in measurements of (1) handoff rate, blocking rate, dropping rate versus the traffic intensities and mean arrival times and (2) the difference between the mobile signal strength and the required minimum strength value before the system drop the calls versus the number of handoffs. IC-041 PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF THE BEAMFORMER FOR IMPERFECT ANTENNA ARRAY IN QPSK Raungrong Suleesathira, Rungsak Niemkhum IEEE International Workshop on Antenna Technology: Small Antennas and Novel Metamaterials, March 7-9, 2005, Marina Mandarin, Singapore, pp. 489-492 In this paper, the performance of quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) modulation with a beamformer is analyzed in the presence of array imperfections. A derivation of a close-form expression for the probability of a symbol error (PSE) is shown. The simulation results demonstrate that the presented beamformer based on the least squared method of subarrays (LSMS) outperforms the linearly constrained minimum variance (LCMV) method and is close to the optimal beamformer requiring the known complex gain perturbation. The evaluation is done in terms of array patterns and symbol error rates (SERs).
