IndiaCLEN: A.K Niswade President IndiaCLEN has a long established track record of working with Government agencies and in different States in India. Since 2007, IndiaCLEN has participated as a key star supported Institution (SSI) under the USAID-MCH-STAR program. During 2009, on the request of IndiaCLEN, MCH-Star commissioned two renowned management consultancy firms for the strategic planning of the organization Research Projects: Ongoing • South Asian Pneumococcal Alliance and HIB Initiative (SAPNA) • Mid term review of National AIDS Control Programme (NACP-III) • Quality assurance of HIV test kits at NICD New Delhi in collaboration with NACO • Hospital based sentinel surveillance for Hib meningitis in children (Hib) • Shaping demand and practices to improve reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition outcomes in northern India New CEU/CERTCs The following four new CEUs were established in 2010 • Rajinder Institute of Medical Sciences- Ranchi, Jharkhand • Tata Motors Hospital, Jamesdpur, Uttar Pradesh • Motilal Nehru Medical College, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh • Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh There are at present 15 CEUs of IndiaCLEN which are operational Events During the year 2010 the IRB was held on 17 th July, under the chairmanship of Dr Ashok Chandra. LatinCLEN Sergio Munoz President Email- The new health minister in Chile is a former LatinCLEN affiliate, and an epidemiologist trained at McMaster University. LatinCLEN is trying to develop a MOU with PAHO for building capacity in operational research protocol development and data management for health personnel in the region. Research Projects Ongoing The center of excellence for cardiovascular health for South America was created on September 2009. The center is composed originally by IECS (Argentina), CIGES-UFRO (Chile), Universidad Republica (Uruguay) and Tulane University (USA). The first study, ongoing, is entitled “Detection and follow-up of cardiovascular disease and risk factors in the South Cone of South America”. The cohort study considers followup for 5 years of approximately 8000 subjects from 4 Latin-American cities.
