In 2003 i there were 229 early-onset GBS (EOGBS) infections occurring in the first six days of life reported in England, Wales & Northern Ireland. In 2010 ii , there were 302 (248 in 2007) iii . Even with the best medical care, 10% of these sick babies die and others suffer long-term disabilities, including up to 50% of survivors of group B Strep meningitis iv . Wherever data has been published on the incidence of early onset GBS infection in babies, before and after the introduction of screening, the incidence has fallen dramatically
