Seniors 10 The WLHS

Seniors 10 The WLHS Pilot Spring 2013 Seniors in Track A few seniors are listed below who have been great members of the Wisco track team. By Landon Lehr Jansen van Grimsven What track event(s) do you participate in? 400 meter dash, 4x400 meter relay, and the triple jump. When did you start participating in this event? I started the 400 meter dash in 4th grade. What do you like/dislike about this event? I like how you need to be both physically and mentally tough when sprinting a full lap. How well have you done at recent meets? At Outdoor Conference, I got 4th place with a time of 51.35 seconds, which is ranked at #8 in school history. Have you learned anything through track? Life can be compared to a 400. Everyone can start off strong at the beginning of the race, but when times get tough, you need to stay strong and finish the race with everything you've got left. Putting all your heart into something makes the fi nal outcome that much sweeter. Shawntrel Garner What track event(s) do you participate in? 4X100 meter relay, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and the long jump. How well have you done at recent meets? My 4x100 relay team is currently 5th in the state. I have won the conference in the 100-meter and in the long jump, and I’ve taken 2nd in the 200-meter in Conference. Have you learned anything through track? It takes a lot of work and dedication to become better at any and everything you do. Any advice to freshmen or people new to track? Do not slack off; listen to the coaches. They have a lot of knowledge and good advice that can make you better at any event you do. Taylor Corkum What track event(s) do you participate in? The pole vault and the triple jump. When did you start participating in this event? I started the pole vault as a freshman, and I did the triple vault in grade school. What do you like/dislike about this event? I like the pole vault, because it’s a technical sport. There is always something to improve on, and that’s what keeps me going. Have you learned anything through track? When you work really hard, it will always pay off in the end. Any advice to freshmen or people new to track? Hard work will always pay off, and track is really fun!
